Here is a picture ( I hope)of the 4500 as delivered. 11073001_651887758248964_6341705647947849678_n.jpg Sorry it is not larger, It shows the under carriage and front pilot black, not blue like it is now painted.

This is the 4501. The image was taken during her trip to Frisco, TX. The 4501 carries a different livery than her sister.

Hi everyone, I apologize for resurrecting a dormant topic, but I wanted to see if anyone had data on the measured distance between the boiler courses on the 4500 class? The drawings here (and ones I’ve found elsewhere) only really have data relating to the wheelbase, with minimal info on cab/boiler length and the like. If someone has such info they could share, that would be great. Thank you!

This may help. You could scale from a known or close to known dimension to get the lengths of the courses. This was as being built at Baldwin. I do have an erection drawing, but it is huge as it is 1-1/2"=1' scale. I had loaned it to Glacier Park Models to help them with their HO versions.

Thanks for sharing-might be able to work with this.

Out of curiosity, where do you get an erection drawing? I'm assuming it was handed down by someone who worked on the RR? Or can they be bought?

A friend and I came up with drawings of several classes many years ago. I think we either got them from Millard Smart or Ed Heiss. Was back in the 60s.
I don't know if Louis Griesemer in Springfield has any in the files or not.
I had loaned my drawing of the 1520 class to a local guy who wants to build it in live steam. He took the time to clean it up, have it scanned and digitized.
This could probably be something that someone in the group could do, at least the scanning and digitizing and made available.
