Glued bolster adapters to upgrade my IHC Frisco lightweight passenger cars purchased from Ken W. to IHC metal trucks, also from Ken. I will have to convert them to body mount couplers. I also purchased another set of the IHC trucks for an Athearn Frisco lightweight passenger car. Don't know what colors to paint the interiors.
TY Thanks Bill. This just gave me a BFO (the US Navy's acronym for "blinding flash of the obvious") that reminded me there are color drawings of some of the Meteor lightweight interiors in the TRRA Historical and Technical Society's "Meteor"... which is one of the reasons I purchased it... doh!
I didn't know IHC made Frisco lightweight cars. What do they look like? I have Con-Cor cars and they have their issues, including not having interiors.
These were released some time ago. I purchased them from Ken Wulfert along with the interior kits and the metal truck upgrades. Someone with more knowledge of the history of these cars should chime in. (I know there were connections between IHC and Rivarossi and others as well.) I do feel that they will need additional weight, which may be a little challenging to hide.
While waiting on some parts for a couple Frisco projects in the works, (they got shipped today!) I decided to work on a couple other projects underway. These are P2K GP30's I added a few details, a friend of mine took the prototype image, I have permission to show it. Now, this Hyatt guy must not have been liked very much. As this was written on a lot of stuff. Here is my version. I detailed it up, painted and decaled the thing, then driving Mrs Vicki crazy I dirtied it all up as she says. Most EMD's in this time frame has Turquoise colored Pedestal liners, so I painted these two locos Pedestal liners with GN blue/green. Those one got the smaller logo and a bit less grime. I promise Frisco stuff next week of after LOL.
Not the greatest picture, but it shows the car with the upgrade trucks installed. Still needs body mount couplers installed and the interior painted.
Looks good Craig, how many do you have a full train? Tom, the GP 30s look great. Very nice work like usual. Tell Vicki dirty is a good thing!!
Here's mine this week. Getting more done on the GMC. As I said before this was a horrible resin cab off ebay. I have built a corrected grille and grille shell. Plus got it in the center of the body which it was not before. I drilled out the side vents and headights and started on some other cab parts. I also got the door lines scribed in it. The chassis is stretched and ready for details before paint.
Just two of the IHC cars, Steve, this one and the lounge car with the fantail, but with one Athearn lightweight (shorter), some REA express reefers, a combination car, another purchase from Ken Wulfert and some heavyweight cars, it should "represent" the Ft Smith sub section of the Meteor.
Steve - Love the GMC truck and look forward very much to seeing your completed version. When I was a kid, my dad built houses up in N St Louis County. He was affiliated with a somewhat larger builder who was a close, long time friend of both my mom and dad. Long story short - they decided to jointly purchase a used cement truck so they could save some money by buying their concrete at the concrete plant, rather than paying for it plus the delivery cost. That truck was a GMC that looked like your model. This was around 1953-1954 but the truck was a few years older when they got it. The truck was painted blue. They came up with a fun idea, and hand painted a flying goose on each door. Naturally, they then called it "The Blue Goose". BTW, I rode along several times during the summers as a kid - my dad used me as sort of an extra pair of hands to do odds and ends at the job site. The GMC was very much underpowered, which I'm sure was the reason the cement company was selling them. It got the job done, however, but starting up from a stop was slow, with several gear shifts required. Nice memory for me! K
That’s pretty neat Ken. I will assume there are no pictures? Might have just made your Christmas gift shoppping easier though!! Those are a good looking truck I think. Classic lines. Several motors offered both gas and diesel all grossly underpowered by today’s standards but were the start of GM then Detroit Diesels -71 line that probably turned out more than any other diesel made. Thanks for sharing, glad I could revive your youth Ken.
I built another tank from Scotch tape rollers. I dug in my parts box and found some ladders and a top cage: I might try to make some pipes from leftover sprues, if I can find thin enough ones.
When I used to see one of these, I always went inside to look around. Pretty rare to see one, but their was two, by the wheel shop one time so I went in. I seen one of those lavatories in it that was stainless, it was a tri-type. Bout that time the Special Agent stepped in and we talked a while, I told him that I liked looking and looking for antique's. I especially liked the lavatory. He gave me the funniest look !
I thought some of you might like this. Too modern for a lot of you though. This is my buddy Terry in Las Vegas. The same guy that sent me the pics of the covered hopper I just finished. Thanks
I have some Rivarossi heavyweights and some Bachmann heavyweights. Haven't figured out how to remove the lettering so I can decal for Frisco. Any advice?
I'm fairly sure there's a thread on that topic here on the forum somewhere, I forget who posted it. I'll check in a little while if it doesn't pop up soon.
