Supplies arrived today (just in time for the Labor Day weekend) for cross-overs on the Crawford and Cherokee. This Fast Tracks jig should allow for some nice single cross-overs and #6 turnouts. Kevin Marks noted at the KC show that you can also make a nice lead into a parallel siding. If you are in the San Antonio area and ever need to borrow the jig and/or point & stock-aid tools, let me know.

  3. Neat, please show the results too! I have seen these at the RPM show and he sure makes it look easy and nice switches.

  4. Here's my work for the week.
A guy that I met in St Louis wanted some stuff painted and weathered. Got this first couple done.

  5. My BN 6845/SLSF 955 project. This is post BNSF when it became a HELM leaser unit in Mexico where I found pics of it still running in 2016 at least. What a hard life...

  6. Well, not Wednesday but I'm off today so there is a little picture time. Pretty much done with BNSF/BN/HELM 6845 former FRISCO 955:

Nice to see SLSF 955 has received such gentle treatment since 1980!

Be sure to include the proto-pic of 6845 when you share pics of your model... or they'll think you over weathered your model of it!

It is amazing how the RR beat these things to death and they just kept going. I am sure they are getting no better treatment down South and they just keep going.
Great job Steve! I havent tried this level of rust yet.
Andre if you look at a previous post there is an image of the prototype HLCX 6845. :)

  13. Thanks Andre. I thought the same, it will need pics for sure for anyone to believe it.

Thanks Tom, hope you like her. It’s hard to believe it still keeps going and doesn’t seem to get a serious shop job. I sure wish I had a friend at HELM so I could buy those doors when it finally does get retired. At this rate it may out live me though.

Tom: Yup, that's the pic I was encouraging Steve to include in his model pics.

Well, made it this far with my weekend and the first #6 LH FastTracks cross-over for the Crawford and Cherokee (v2):

Still needs throw bars and rail gaps. Will add the ties when they arrive in the mail. I ordered the double cross-over by mistake (doh). I did not extend the parallel tracks to match the templates, as these will be linked in with other turnouts close by.

I would never have the patience to handlay track, especially turnouts and such. My hats off to you.

  17. I am just not bright enough to build those switches. Like jim, I commend your efforts.
