Actually, we luckily stopped growing wheat a few years ago. Soy bean planting will start once it dries out though.
Happy Workshop Day All, A quick update for this week. Track is painted and static grass is going in on the Southbend/Lightning Creek section. Had some time over the long weekend for some progress. I went back to my home made static grass applicator, as I think the small size gives me better control. Going to work on some ballasting tonight and maybe some trees later this week. I also need to stain some wood for the trestle build and find my drawings from the Frisco civil engineering archives. It still needs the bus wired, but trains should be running soon! Take Care All, -Bob T.
What do you use to bond the static grass to the layout? I am planning on both 2 mm and 4 mm length. I have heard you can thin white glue ( what forumla) and I have heard to put it on full strength .
@Friscotony , I use ModgePodge matte medium mixed with about 10%-20% water to thin it just a bit. I let it dry for 5 minutes or so after application of the static grass and then vacuum up the loose material. I use an old stocking to catch and re-use what I can. -Bob T.
Bob, may I recommend a adding dash of salt to the water before adding to the adhesive mix to increase conductivity? It will help the flocker by creating better electrical current flow in the adhesive.
I’ve never heard of that Keith but it makes sense. I have quite a bit of static grass to do this week. I’ll give it a try. Thanks
A little preview as I continue on my Walthers contest project. It’s close. A few more days should have it ready for photos.
A quick update...power bus now wired up along with feeders. Only one cross-wired short to sort out, and we have trains running on the new Lightning Creek section, as well as the mine extension. Also managed a bit of ballast on the new Lightning Creek section. Hope all are well, -Bob T.
...a prized possession, an AMB wood kit, built by our own @Jim James ... in long-term interchange from the Zalma Branch.
Further demo of power working on the new section. [EDIT: Updated with better lighting and used cell phone camera for better depth of field]. Take Care All, -Bob T.
Thanks Ethan, I am going to get the tree/brush factory going for the hill in the background first, then build the trestle, and then on to farm and mining camp. I am looking for models for the foreground farm scene if you have any suggestions.(?) ' I bought a couple of structure kits for the mining camp already, but not started on construction. More to come, for sure. P.S. I updated the video above after re-recording with better lighting, etc. -Bob T.
