Thanks Ethan. I am thinking “Lee Walk” which was NNW of Weir (edit: or "Humble" which was south of Cherokee, West of Weir City). Maybe a scene like this one from Empire City:
Got a little update that goes along with Workshop Wednesday here: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....layouts-the-thrill-and-the-agony.12464/page-7
It’s almost Wednesday here in Ohio so here goes.. All customer stuff this week. Got stuff finished for a couple people. The CSX SD50 was a P2K that had horrible factory paint. It was black. I repainted to a closer to correct blue. The 86’ cars are latest Tangent releases. Still campaigning for a Frisco release. Any one here can feel free to suggest it to David also. Wink.
I also built up a couple old GHQ forklift kits for my main customer. A pain to build but painted up they look pretty convincing.
Thanks Andre. Yes those forklifts are HO. They are white metal kits with the ROPS which is a little photoetched brass sheet that needs folded up and attached. They are kind of a pain to build because they are from very old molds is my guess. But they include lots of spare parts at least. The Badger Modelflex Trailer Train color I had on hand seemed pretty close to the old Hyster yellow. Thanks again.
Small update of my latest exploits on the workbench: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....-thrill-and-the-agony.12464/page-7#post-91867
No ROPS cages in the sixties - my engineering boss at Hyster was on the SAE ROPS committee in 1971. Gasoline or diesel power - now days most are propane.
Yeah if these were for me instead of customer I had thought propane tanks would be neat to add. The ROPS with these kits is a newer addition to the kit than they had originally.
Wednesday Eve, I guess..... Been continuing the adds for the layout, including the extension for the Lightning Creek Mine and the scenic section to add some distance between the town of Cherokee (KS) and the mine scene. Track is going in at the mine extension, with a capacity of about 10 cars: And the scenic section is going in with a temporary foam bridge crossing Lightning Creek. Some 2-inch deep foam provides for a good deal of elevation change around the track grade. Track was glued down Sunday. Yesterday, I worked on soldering it up, but had to order some terminal strips for the feeders and bus. Maybe next week's update will see a train run....maybe. Probably will drop the feeders through and get the track painted. Scenery can proceed even if there is no power, I suppose. Take Care All -Bob T.
Not new pieces but back to the owner. Thought some of you might like seeing his pics. While he was picking up and dropping off he mentioned he liked the little CR van. So we struck a deal and it went north too. Enjoy.
Steve, Beyond excellent on the cars! I might say the pictures had me guessing. I said to myself, is that real? Are the canoe paddlers real? Is the water real? I think the Owner needs to be revealed. The layout needs to be mentioned and seen. John
Thanks John. A guy named Peter Munger is the owner of lots of stuff I paint including all these. He was on Ken Patterson’s coverage of last years RPM. He is an attorney that lives in Toledo a couple hours north of me. He has a layout that is very nice. But these photos are on some dioramas he has. His layout is mid 70s Toledo/northern Ohio. He has a massive HO collection. That evolves. He sells off old pieces to buy new. His collection is pretty amazing. He’s a super guy. We met randomly a few years ago and he asked if I would paint a couple things for him. That grew in to him having his own shelf on my basement. At any time I probably have a dozen of his waiting to get paint, weathering etc….I’m not sure how many I have done of his but at least a couple hundred. Maybe more. I appreciate his business for sure. I do more from him than all my other people combined and myself. He’s a great modeler but doesn’t really like to paint. Glad you like them. He will be in St Louis this year again. Maybe you can meet up. He’d love your layout for sure.
Had this older (plastic) Walthers 8 axle drop-deck flat. I wanted to modify it to resemble the Kasgro Rail (KRL) 38181. I stretched the load deck to 38' to match the prototype, turns out the other dimensions match too, 68' over the end sills, and 92' over the strikers. I filled the deck voids with lead shot and glued them in with CA. The biggest challenges was trying to get some the piping in to match the plumbing on the ends. Used some IM trucks w 36" wheels that lowered to car a bunch, looks way better. After some mods Now mostly Red, I need to make up some decals and put them on, other details to be added as well. Below shown side by side w an RTR car. Working on a load for it too. Want it to turn out something like the below. From RRpicarchives Anyways some progress.
