Here's my second offered Westerfield kit:

The following HO Westerfield "Alternatives to Brass" Frisco box car kit is for sale. This is Westerfield kit #3810, suggested road number is SLSF 127063, a USRA double sheathed box car. The Frisco had more USRA DS box cars than any other railroad - 3500 total. And, this was Westerfield's best selling Frisco kit, but is no longer available. See the attached pics.

This kit is new, unmolested, in its original box, in mint condition, with all instruction/history sheets and white lettering/number decals included (with black & white coonskin logos). Like all of Al's kits, there are no trucks or couplers provided.

Price: $33.00, plus actual USPS Priority Mail shipping cost. Payment by personal check, cash or money order desired, but PayPal will work if you must (I'm growing weary of their service charge).

Let me know if interested via e-mail to me at meteor910@mindspring.com, or via private message on frisco.org to meteor910.

Thanks! I'm not real anxious to sell this but I am unlikely to build it for quite a while, and thought someone else in frisco.org could make better use of it given that it is no longer available.

ps - Note the second pic shows car SLSF 127063CT. The CT stands for "Columbia Trust", the entity that actually owned the car. The Westerfield decals will do either version of the car - with either the "Frisco Lines" logo on SLSF 127063, or the small "Frisco" logo on SLSF 127063CT. Other road numbers are available on the decal sheet as well.

    Hey Ken,

I'm interested in this kit but I have a question. When did FRISCO start using 40' USRA DS? Since its USRA, I'm assuming it is post WWI. I'm just concerned about the dates because I'm really trying to keep my cars below 1930. Thanks for any info you can give.

Manny - You would be OK with the Westerfield #3810 car. Per Al's history sheet (included), the Frisco's USRA DS cars SLSF 127000 to 129018, were deliverd to the Frisco in 1919, while SLSF 129019 to 130499, were delivered in 1920. So, 3500 cars total, more than any other railroad, from a multitude of builders but all essentially alike per the USRA design. They were used system-wide.

If you want it, just add $33 to the total - I'll cover any added shipping for both kits together.

I have built this kit and it is great. It has the coonskin lettering and not the billboard style. Just FYI. I need a faster Internet connection so that I can jump on some of these kits!

    Hey Ken,

Thank you for the offer on the 3810. I will pass on this one. If you have a sawtooth...

Sorry if I held anyone up.

Manny, OK, no problem. Appreciate your purchase of the Frisco gondola.

So, frisco.org, Westerfield #3810, Frisco USRA double sheathed box car with two different decal schemes, is still available if anyone is interested. Let me know.

This car will mark the end of my Westerfield "sale".

I have two additional unbuilt Westerfield kits here - the #3860 SLSF modernized USRA double sheathed box car, and the #11251 SLSF single sheathed "sawtooth" modernized box car with the wood ends. I'm going to keep both of these for now. I thought I had another #3810, but recall I sold that a few years back.

Speaking of older Frisco kits - I also have one each of the three Main Line Models Frisco kits here - all unbuilt, mint, just as the Westerfields are. These are BC-7, a Frisco 50ft outside braced automobile car; CC-14, a Frisco 36ft stock car; and BC-35, a Frisco 42ft box car. These are mainly wood construction kits, and were very popular back in the early 1960's when I first got into the HO end of the hobby. "Oldies but goodies"! I bought and built the BC-1 back then, but sold it when I sold all my stuff while in graduate school. I regret that - it was a nice looking car. I bought these three unbuilt kits as I saw them, intending to build them some day. Don't know that I ever will get to them - if anyone is interested in classic Frisco kits, let me know and I will get you the details.

I would like the Westerfield boxcar and the 36' stock car if it is pre 1925ish. Thank you

Thanks Jim! The Westerfield #3810 USRA DS box car is yours. I've sent you a pm with the details.

If I sell the Main Line Models kits, I don't want to sell them individually, but as a group of three. I've explained that in the pm as well. I'll post somethig shortly on the three MM's if I decide to sell them (probably will). I need to do a bit of research on them first, pics, etc.

I think I'll hold on to the three Frisco Main Line Models kits for now - too much sentiment in them. These were among the few SLSF HO kits that were available in 1961/62 when I got into HO. I built the BC-7 50ft auto box car and it was a lot of fun to build (of course that was in 1965!) - a good looking car which I sold a few years later (1968) while in grad school at Purdue to help make ends meet. Always regretted that, it was a good looking outside braced, double door 50ft car. Wonder if it is still running somewhere?

None of these cars are exact for the Frisco - they just sort of looked like cars the Frisco had, which was good enough back in the '60's. They are wood kits, with metal frame and detail parts, pre-painted sides, no trucks or couplers. The Frisco decoration on the 50ft DD box and the 36ft stock car are fair, the decoration on the 42 ft box (which resembles a USRA DS box) is pretty good, with a nice black & white coonskin. I've just looked these cars up in my 1963 (yes, 1963!) Walthers catalog - these kit's cost back then was $3.45 each! But, that was a lot of $$$ for a car kit then - an Athearn Blue Box was $1.49/$1.98 depending on the car. Main Line made each of their kits in 15-20 or more road names, so you know they were generic cars, not really accurate for any one road.

Thanks for the interest. I had forgotten I had these stuffed back in a second row of kits on a shelf (along with the four Westerfield kits).
