Manny, the V700 can be found for $600 or sometimes less if you find one on Epson's web site as refurbished. They are an excellent scanner. Do you have software to save the images as Vector files? I wish I knew how to do that or could find some easy software for it.

Yes Don, I do. Vector files are Corel Draw files. I have Corel Draw v4. Then I open them with XnView, which is free. I have email alerts set up through Epson for that same reason. I hope to have one next month. I collect negatives of old time builders photos and need to change them into TIFF's so that I can have decals made.

    Thanks!

Whew! I was not sure who "_***_" was among the bidders. A bit of a cliffhanger, perhaps? Thanks for staying with it on our behalf.

Give me until tomorrow to sort it out guys. I've been on days off from work and trying to get caught up with projects at home. I will figure it all out and give everyone a shout.

This was a very noble effort, fella's. I hope your risk is rewarded well with rare and appropriate slides.

    UPDATE

Ok guys and gals, here's where we stand on this: We won the auction, meaning that all of these 900 to 1000 images will appear on Frisco.org scanned as best as we can get them scanned. We have two members who have volunteered to scan the slides so we will work on the logistics of that. There's something fun to look forward to.

    MONEY

We had pledges from some of our very fine members here to cover the costs, however; some people were extremely generous in their pledges. The final total (including shipping) for this was $350.12.

Now that we have won and you know that everyone will have the same access to the images, I am wondering if a few more people would be willing to share the load?

As such, if you click on Support $ at the top (or right here) it will take you to the payments page. I have set up a payment called "Slide Buyers Club" and the payment amount is $10. That means if 35 people gave $10, no one would have to pay a lot of money at all.

In a few days, I will report to the volunteers who have already pledged money how much to pay. (I have already paid for the slides out of pocket so this will be reimbursement money.)

Some folks pledged over $100 (as I pledged $100 as well) and all we would have to do is combine my $100 and $100 from a couple of other people with a $50 pledge to be done with it but that seems a bit unfair. I don't care about my contribution but I think some of these other fellows have been very generous and this is all to share with others.

As my wife says, "many hands make light work" so if many hands donate $10, no one will be out a lot of money and this will enhance the site and give us new things to talk about. As an added bonus, I will zip the pictures into an easy download (or maybe three or four files) to be made available to anyone that donates (once scanning is complete).

Again, I will update folks on the amount raised and the amount needed, so if you were someone who pledged money, stand by and I will contact you later in the week.

As far as acquiring the actual slides, they are being sent to me and we will work out who is scanning and I will send them wherever then need to go. They are being sent in carousels and that is expensive but I think they should be taken out for shipping to whoever is going to scan them.

    Thanks again everyone.

It took some doing, but I finally remembered my PayPal code.
Charlie, I was wondering if the Museum at Carona or the library in Springfield or at UM would be good repositories for the slides after scanning? Don't know if the libraries are only keeping the digital copies now.

    Thank you Steve.

We have raised $30 on this today so more would be great for you folks that would consider a small contribution.

    Thanks everyone.

Re: ATTENTION: Frisco Slides on eBay

As one who is dealing with period pictures, I have to warn you that giving those slides away, even to a library, would be VERY FOOLISH TO DO. The American Car & Foundry gave many of their photos to public libraries around their facilities only to have access locked down where they couldn't even view them. I have heard way too many horror stories and have talked to many folks who have dealt with that suggestion and issue first hand. If you want to lose those slides, go ahead and give them away. Not trying to offend, but that's the truth.

We'll deal with that down the road. It will be quite some time before we get to that point.

    $160.

We'll cut it off if we hit $200 (four more people) and those of us who pledged originally will take care of the rest with what will generally end up being $25 donations.

    Thanks again folks.
