Well... a few odds and ends left... but it's done enough to share pics!

This is my first completed S scale project. LOVE this scale!!!

FWIW: 306 will be coming with me to the Frisco Fest next Saturday. See you there!

Very nice work. I really like your painting, lettering and weathering. Right out of the pages of MR or RMC. Nice rust on the cab roof. Chalk?

    Hopefully:

Yup, I used a pic of #306 from Marre/Harper "Frisco Diesel Power" as an aid.

    klrwhizkid:

Thanks! Looking forward to meeting you and others too! I'm going to try to remember to wear a name tag.

    Rick Mc:

Oh... garsh... (fake blush). Seriously, thanks for the kind words. One lil' Frisco engine pales in comparison to the fleet of Frisco motors that exist on your layout! Plus, I sure wish my layout was as far along as your nice looking layout! However, at least I'm modeling again! (Been a loooooong time.)

    Jim:

Actually, the cab "grundge" is a light misting of 50/50 mix of Floquil RR Colors "Roof Brown" and "Rust". I thinned the mix about 30% or so, too.

The layered look (i.e. varying shades of black on the superstructure) was done while painting the base coats.

Once all the decals were applied, set, and doctored... they were sealed with dullcoat.

THEN came the airbrush weathering, followed by chalk weathering. Once all was "good enough", I sealed the chalks with a final pass of Dullcoat. Last was to add some fuel streaks and oil seepage using Engine Black, thin washes, followed by some Testors "Glosscoat" to accent the spills/leaks and add needed "shine".

Lots of work... but fun once finished!

    Andre -
A superb model from top to bottom; I'll echo Jim's thoughts on the nice weathering job.

The West Bottoms photo backdrops are eye-catching at your eye-level photo angle.

    Best Regards,

Andre - Nice job! I love the subtle weathering. You should document your techniques in an article for The Meteor or a clinic at some future Frisco meeting.

I too am looking forward to meeting you at the get together this weekend. I am also looking forward to seeing your model. It looks great!
Do you have a laptop that you could bring thta has the software that you did your backdrop photos. If so could you bring it. I would love to get together with you and see how you did those. I am sure plenty of others would love it also. See you this weekend.

Looking forward to meeting you too. Alas, I don't have a lap top. (All of my textures are on my various hard drives here at the house and on my server.) Bummer.

    Ken:

I have agreed to type a quick synopsis of what I did and share it with the S scale Yahoogroups list I'm a part of. Once I do, perhaps I can copy/paste and share it here?

    yardmaster:

Thanks for your kind words, too. I love the low angle capability of my little Canon A95... but I wish I knew how to do a better job on depth of field. Got a feeling the Macro setting needed to draw in close to the model diminishes depth of field.

Welp... all for now. Had a 12 hour day today in Alco Land... tired puppy... off to bed.
