Site colors - Opinion?

    Guys,

Here's yet another thread asking for an opinion.

For those of you with forum change fatigue, the good news is that we are way down the road of change and there won't be a whole lot more of this stuff in the near future.

This sampling of opinion is an informal question (no poll) regarding the site colors. Any change to the site colors would only regard what we will call the highlight colors. The general look of the site as far as a light background, etc., is not going to change.

As we know, in the diesel era, the Frisco had two major color schemes - black and yellow, and mandarin and white. I think a lot of people like the black and yellow.

So, I have done a little experimenting with the navigation bar just as an example and here is what it looks like. Bear in mind that this is just an example (click the image for a larger version):

The question is, do you like this and would you want us to work on a black and yellow highlight scheme versus the blue scheme that we have now?

I think black and yellow are difficult to work with and too much of it is overpowering but these are Frisco colors. Your opinion(s) will help us decide how much time to spend working on this as it is time intensive to do the colors.

I don't care for the yellow. I like the colors now. Just enough red to make things vary. The Blue/Gray is subtle, and warm. Yellow is harsh and bright on the eyes. Change is good Charlie, just take it in little steps. My vote is leave the colors alone.

The black/yellow really pops. I'd like to see more of the "Frisco Lines" motif, maybe with the logo in blue/silver. You could rotate stuff like that periodically.

    Charlie,

I like the idea you've got there. How ever I think the yellow is too bright. What about a sample of what Orange and White would look like?

And would it be possible to allow people to select between a number of options for color scheme?

I only want to maintain one style for the site. It is possible to have multiple styles but every little change in anything must be done in all styles and I think we should stick with one thing that looks the same for everyone.

TrainBoard is orange is you want to see what orange looks like but the only reason to go to the black and yellow look would be to decorate the site in Frisco colors.

The yellow on the F units was more of a Yellow Ochre rather than bright yellow. Still makes the lettering pop out. Orange wouldn't do it for me. Maybe Zephyr Blue and silver.

I can easily match the colors from a good photo. I should mention also that the present colors are the out-of-the box vBulletin colors.

I agree with Don, my favorite is Blue and Silver, then Black and Yellow, and finally O & W.

I like the colors we have now. The sample image of black and yellow was a little harsh.

Well, like I said, that was just an example. I was trying to get a feel for the general concept, not that image in particular as it was just a quick test.

Again, the forum highlignt colors we have now are just out-of-the box with no customization at all.

Of course, if you are a Missouri Pacific guy you would like it because these are generally MP colors. LOL.

I thought we would keep it informal but maybe.... Not many comments so far though.

I thought the blue that is already on the site was a rendition of the "zephyr blue" 1945-era passenger colors Frisco used. A second look reveals it is too faint for that, of course. I agree with Don that something along the lines of a zephyr blue is the right way to go for one of the colors. The other can remain the red or red-orange in current use.

    OK, Charlie, I concede!
I do like the blue Coonskin with the name underneath it.
    Very nice!

    Howdy Charlie,

I really like the rotating logos. It gives us a taste of ALL of the Frisco, even diesels! Nicely done.
    Best,
    Mike
