E8A's - 1967 Here are two shots of a pair of E8As leading a passenger train. Slides are dated April 1967. Location is unknown, but probably in Kansas The station sign appears to have 6 letters on it. Photographer unknown. Moderator: I am thinking this is a Kansas City Subdivision southbound at Olathe, KS. RRT

E8A SLSF 2022 and SLSF 2006 At Kansas City Union Station about 1966. Not so good quality. SLSF 2008 paired with SLSF 2006 at Kansas City Union Station, November 1966 See pervious posted photograph.
It is strange, isn't it, about how hard it is to get pictures of E8A SLSF 2008, "Messenger"? Wonder why this unit was so hard to photograph? Maybe she was always out delivering a message. I just checked my old album of Frisco E-unit prints that I got back in the 1980s from the late Art Johnson and from Dr. Lou Marre. Both were prolific photographers of Frisco power. I have many prints of each Frisco E, but only have two prints of SLSF 2008 from Art, and only one from Lou. Lou Marre does have the best photograph, however, of SLSF 2022 carrying the "Middleground" name before she got T-boned by the Katy at Ft. Scott. It was very early in her service life. At least the best photograph I have seen of it. She came back from EMD as "Champion", and was the subject of many photographs thereafter. Ken
Unfortunately, none of the E7as (EA7s) or E8As are extant. Five were sold to the Louisville and Nashville (L&N), and the rest were trade-in fodder to EMD.
You know it looks like several E units got the yellow cigar band. I know what Lou Marre thinks about it, but I have got to admit it has kind of grown on me. Andre Ming
E8A SLSF 2008 Messenger Here is a photograph of E8A SLSF 2008 that I took in Fort Smith, AR in March 1960. It was unusual in that it still had its coupler doors and they were not even very badly beaten up. Although you can see where a short length of chain has been welded to one side, with a bracket on the other side, so that the doors could be held shut even if the original latches no longer fit. Nice shot Gordon! I am thinking I like the deluxe gold scheme better even than the gold and white stripe scheme. I wonder if Walthers/P2K could be persuaded to do the Frisco E8As in the deluxe scheme the next time they do a release. I guess that is because most of the Racehorses I saw were that way. Ken
