I saw a tiny little video camera a week or so ago and got a wild hair and ordered one. It's a cube 1x1x1", records in 720P Hi-Def. I ordered a Micro SD card with it, but it's only a class 4, so for video I should have a 6 or 10 to get rid of the choppyness. It has LEDs for light on the front, but I don't like them because of the blue tint, so put electrician's tape over them. I made a "tube" to recess the camera to cut down on the angle of coverage. I think I'm going to simulate the side of a boiler on the left side of the frame to look like you're looking out of the cab from the engineer's seat. I'm really impressed with it. I posted a video on youtube. It's only the second one I've shot with it since it came today. Has possibilities. Here's a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3H-mQ7RJLU&feature=plcp
Uh-oh! Busted! Rules violation!!!! Dark signals at an ABSOLUTE require you to stop, and get the dispatcher on the line to proceed! Turn in your engineers' card, you're suspended pending union hearing! Looks good! Nice to get new toys, isn't it?
Could have sworn that I heard the exhaust echoing off the rock bluff. A form S train order, no doubt, covers the out of service A-Block
The signal is not in service yet. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll probably do some more fooling around with it today. Too bad the layout isn't fully scenicked, it would make a nice ride. I'm going to build a camera car, probably just a piece of somthing with bolsters and trucks and couplers. The camera has a tripod hole, but it's on top. These are used mostly by RC plane guys and bolt on the bottoms of the planes or wings. Right now, it's just sitting on a flatcar. I'm still amazed by what's out there nowadays. You know there would have to be some tiny little cameras around since almost all cell phones have them. I'm surprised how well the sound comes through.
Remember the old rail cam advertisements in the model railroad mags. Lionel I think. Boy, technology sure is growing.
Well, I cobbled together a camera car for the little thing. Used a piece of 1/4" MDF, but you could use anything. It was just handy. The brass strap holds the camera down. I want to cover up the 4 LEDs since they have such a blue tint that it screws up the image. They come on automatically in low light, but the room lighting seems to be sufficient from the video that I posted. I don't have the shroud on yet as the paint is drying. It will extend to the end of the car. I have to do some errands this afternoon and while I'm out, I'll get a class 6 or 10 card for it. Modern stuff rocks sometimes. Caboose shows the relative size to the contraption.
Don, I think that you are about the coolest guy I know that is older (slightly) than me. With your modeling talents, I see some neat stuff coming...
That is really impressive. If you don't mind my asking, what was the price of the setup as you now have it? GS

Don, Your link is not good in Firefox. Says there is a program and protocol not associated with Firefox. But that flat car is great! Nice job. Add a couple of train crewman and you have a totally comical scene. Manny
Try the link now, there was some embedded code that did not parse out into a URL. (How's that for computer geek speak?)
