During my matriculation at Southwest Missouri State during the middle ‘70’s the Huntleigh was located near the campus, and functioned as an eatery that served a grill menu as well as adult malted beverages. Needless to say, it was a favorite haunt of mine. The car still retained its stainless steel fluting, although the roof and window piers were painted Pullman green. The Huntleigh was one of several lightweight cars to receive this treatment. As the campus expanded, the car was removed, and scrapped by a junkyard in the Nichols area. Many years later, while shooting trains around Nichols Jct., my brother and I noticed the car-name letter board and number board in the Nichols junkyard. We negotiated a deal for all three items. Skipping forward many years, my wife, weary of seeing the number board lying in the garage, had it framed. Here are the results. Now all I need is a wall sturdy enough to support the number board.
