Thanks to all who have been encouraging.

My scanner is SLOW, so I have been spending a lot of time with this project. As a diversion, the next five downloads will be material produced by others in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

One is an excellent monograph by Marty Lofton, of Sunshine Models, of the Frisco, St. Louis Southwestern (SSW) or Cotton Belt and Jonesboro, Lake City and Eastern (JLC&E) railroads in the Missouri bootheel, Bootheel Lines.

The other four are Frisco Modelers Information Group (FMIG) Second Section newsletters produced by Dave Lindquist of Kansas City. They include some fantastic year-by-year equipment summary tables.

About 70 newsletters exist - be patient.

38 pages - too much good material to list - read it for yourself.

The cover photograph of us old timers 30 years ago is "precious".

As the junior member of the FMIG at age 13, I attended the Springfield meeting in 1977 and the Kansas City meeting in 1978 . Thanks to Gale Hall and my father, Bob Sypult.

I appreciate Doug scanning these newsletters. They bring back a wealth of memories and Frisco knowledge.

I hope we can get A. W. McBride on the frisco.org forum. He was the friendly conductor on trains No 730 and No 731 that made sure this kid had a cab or caboose ride through town, Rogers, AR.

    Thanks again, Doug!

    Mike,

It is amazing just how many from that 1978 photograph of us on the Kansas City turntable are still around, not forgetting those who have passed.

    Doug,

I have to tell you that I am printing these on a pretty nice color printer and now the photographs are sharper and the color snapshots are in color!

What a difference 20-30 years makes. I had a third generation copy of the Newsletter with the guys on the Kansas City turntable, but they all looked like blobs. Now I can make you guys out, but none of us probably look the same anymore.

This is really filling in the numerous gaps I had in my FMIG collection.

    Thanks.

    Ship IT on the Frisco!

    Rick

Here is a copy, of a copy, of a copy, of the motor car and trailer book.

Alan, in his Frisco Museum All Aboard issues, covered each in detail - one per issue.

Many of the subsequent FMIG NL issues were in 8-1/2" x 14" format, so I will use three scans per two pages.

    Huge file. Huge issue.

Mike scanned portions of this one several years ago. Here it is in entirety.

Be patient with the download - Moguls, high-nose U25Bs, 3700-3712 series 0-6-0s, 1946 timetable, early attempts at 1266-1305 2-8-0s (God bless the folks at Bachmann), additional motor cars.

This is the EMD NW2 switchers article based on the old Varney HO casting. This was prior to the nice EMD NW2 models that later were available.

This later became a cover article for Prototype Modeler magazine.

HO modeling of Steam Generator cars SLSF 51 and SLSF 52, the 2-8-8-2s, passenger car list from 1950 Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER), track plans from Larry Parrish and Ron Williams (3 or 4 layouts ago), several new members, unfulfilled promises, etc.

I have really got to take the time to go back and read these gems myself.

    Enjoy, during Olympic coverage commercials.

Passenger car modeling in HO by Ken McElreath back in the days when the only P-S lightweight car models were the milled aluminum shells from OK Herkimer. I think they are still available.

It is still pretty much a "Budd" world, although more P-S kits are becoming available.

I have two better sets of floor plans, one lightweight and the other heavy, that can be scanned and posted if anyone is interested.

    Enjoy.

Another large one in the 8-1/2" x 14" format with pre-merger news and photographs, GP15-1 kit bashing by Brian Webb, Mike Condren's slide list, the 1940 Frisco Official railway Equipment Register (ORER) pages, steam loco air filter details, two track plans, many letters from active modelers, etc.

Another big 25-page one in the 8-1/2" x 14" format. July 1980 was 28 years ago. I had forgotten just how info-packed this issue was.

    For example:

    0-6-0's
    Major dimensions of each
    Modeling tips for a few
White-on-black diagrams of each - poor copies, but that is all I had to work with
    Photographs of numbers SLSF 2/3642, 3644, 3602, 3691, 3800, 3695, and 3687

I later actually built the tender for a model of 0-6-0 SLSF 3695 using the Roundhouse model. I bogged down on the cab.

Bad photograph of the Newburg 500 ton coaling tower from 1909.
    Plans for the Memphis convention.
    Another Lee Buffington letter.
A real switching problem for Bolivar, MO on the High Line from Charlie Dischinger who had to switch it.
Frisco May 1980 freight car list.
    Excellent dimension diagrams for the ex JLC&E 2-6-0 #72, 73 and 74.
    First letter from Marty Lofton.
1967 consists for No. 101, the Southland.
Interior color scheme for chair-lounge-buffet 1652 Huntleigh.

These old newsletters are almost as much of a surprise to me as to the rest since it has been at least 20 years since I have read them.

I had forgotten how great and information-packed they were.

Newsletter 28 of December 1980 was huge - 60 pages in 8-1/2" x 14" format. The scanned versions will be posted in four segments for your downloading convenience.

This one features "everything you ever wanted to know about Frisco consolidation 2-8-0 steam locomotives but were afraid to ask." Again, remember that those nice Bachmann HO-scale and N-scale 2-8-0s were years away.

Summary of the table of Contents:

Consolidations - dimensions; modeling tips; diagrams; photographs of 835, 76, 851 in front of the Houston House in Newburg ,MO, 1274 in Pensacola, 1265, and 1300.

Reports from the summer 1980 FMIG convention in Memphis, TN.

The car list from the August 1918 Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER).

    70-ton covered hoppers.

    Modeling the bay-window cabooses.

HO-scale Alco FA-1 from the Lionel model.

Operations on Ken McElreath's Hunter and Current River Branches HO layout.

    Glenn Young's track plan.

    Many informative letters.

Brew a pot and spend a full day with this one.

    Proudly,

    Doug
