End of the Line for the Zalma Branch

I'm changing the theme and scale for my basement layout. I've always wanted to model a narrow gauge logging tram line in O scale so I'm going to model a generic Southeast Missouri logging tram that reaches a remote section of the Frisco's mainline. I'm not going to strictly adhere to prototype as I tried to with the Zalma Branch because I want more freelance projects. Not to mention that my eyesight handles O scale better. I'm toying with the idea of a fictitious T. J. Moss Lumber Co. Tram. I want to build real rustic wood weather beaten rusty rolling stock and logging locos. I've already invested in a Bachmann On3 Heisler-Stearn Climax and a Boulder Valley Models kit to transform my HO Bachmann Shay into an On3 model. I will use the existing track I have as is with more ballast to cover the out of scale ties. I will start a thread as this endeavor gets airborn.
Now for the tough part. I'm selling all my Frisco locos, rolling stock and most structures. I have many Jordon vehicles and other period vehicles as well including kit built and scratchbuilt steam construction equipment. The photos of all this stuff is easily seen in my past threads and I haven't thought about prices but will do so soon. Thanks for helping me with the Zalma Branch and if anybody has any specific question or crazy offers be sure to PM me. My Frisco equipment includes 4-4-0 # 151 with Tsunami Sound, Russian #1632 with Tsunami sound and a Roundhouse 2-6-0 with factory sound. Also a Frisco SD40-2 with Tsunami sound and lights installed by our very own whizkid, Keith. I also have some nice Westerfield boxcars and wood gondolas, an early tank car with custom decals by our very own Manny and a nice wood caboose with lighted marker lamps and few other cars. I'll try to figure out how to do all this in an orderly manner.
I'll miss the old layout but I'm eager to start the new one. I still have a small N scale Frisco layout by the way. No scenery so far but a big loop is operational.

    Hey Jimmy,
First of all, I would suggest you hang on to this stuff for a bit. There are many different folks that have left a given scale only to return to it later :). But if your dead set on getting rid of the HO stuff I would like to get dibs on your SL-SF SD40-2 :) :) It will go to a good home and work for a living too.|-||-|

    Jim:

Fun is where you find it. If you find yourself having more fun after your change... then it will prove to be a good change. Hopefully you'll always have an appreciation for the Frisco and stick around. It's always fun to view your modeling.

Jim, first, Tom, may have a thought in keeping some of your nicer stuff. I seen you mention the Moss Company, not sure it is the same thing, but the Frisco used to get a lot of their crossing material from the Moss Company.( May be Kerr-Magee)
Here is a shot for you, in for consideration, Duel gage outside Denver at Utah Junction. This was about 82 or 83.
Its the only duel gage I've seen.

Thanks, Coonskin. I certainly will stick around. I still have an N scale Frisco roster and I plan to add scenery to my N scale layout. Bill, the Moss lumber company did supply ties to the Frisco and I will model a very small section where the ties, lumber and logs transferred from the narrow gauge tram line to the Frisco main (that will be where Brownwood is now). I'll need to model one or two O scale Frisco freight cars to pose at the connection. I look foreword to some plausible freelance work that also contains some prototype scenes like a sawmill (now I need to buy an O scale Case steam traction model from Wiseman Model Services) and some tie hackers at work. I'm just gonna have some fun without the constraints of strict prototype modeling.

Thanks, I haven't seen that in a long time. That really gives me some ideas for modeling. It's going to be strange scratchbuilding in O scale. It's going to take some getting used to.

    Jim,

I would be proud to run some of your rolling stock on the Crawford and Cherokee. Especially that fine, fine wood caboose.

PM me if you have not yet changed your mind....

Yes Sir, I saw endless modeling opportunities for you there, as well.
I also understand your comment about not be restrained by prototype or specific modeling.
Thats precisely where the modern QA&P fleet came from on my MRR.
Sometimes it's good to have a little fun with this hobby and not be all together, prototype or rivet consumed.
I think there is a place for both practices, or really arts huh?

What are your plans for the water tank? - Brandon

Brandon, for you, the water tank and pump house,$30.00.

All remaining Westerfield rolling stock is $37 each. 2 sawtooth boxcars built in 1912, one gondola built in 1909 and a wood sheathed boxcar built in 1919.

Zalma combination depot $45. Brownwood depot $45. Each is scratchbuilt from wood with Campbell shingles.

Jim, Please check your PM's. I have an inquiry on all your trucks and cranes from a picture in your build thread. Thanks, Manny

    I'm very confused!
is this going to be On3, or On30?
if you are using the HO track .. Then I am assuming On30 gauge.

Yes, On30. Much easier than On3. As this new layout develops in my imagination I'm seeing several highly detailed prototype scenes of the early Southeast Missouri tie and lumber industry. I want to include a sawmill powered by a Case steam traction engine, tie hackers at work, lumberjacks, teams of mules or horses pulling logs or wagons and a small steam powered lumber loading crane and loading scene at the point where the logging line reaches the Frisco mainline. There I will have a short section of O scale standard gauge track with a couple of Frisco cars being loaded. There's my Frisco content but it will mainly be a working diorama accurately depicting early logging in Swampeast Missouri. These operations occurred nearby the Zalma Branch so I haven't wandered very far astray.
I hesitate to start a thread about the construction and development of this layout because it's not Frisco.

Here's what's left of the vehicles. The old gas pump and figure go with the pickup. That truck has a detailed engine with the hood up. How cool is that? $55 for everything. You pay shipping. That's a Frisco Forum bargain if ever I saw one.
