Thanks guys for the compliments, it makes me happy and proud. I just love working on this caboose and my original vision is starting to come to life. Very exciting to actually see the light at the end of the tunnel for caboose SLSF 1291.
Paul, Is the tunnel you are talking about Winslow Tunnel? lol. Caboose SLSF 1291 is looking great!!! It will not be long before you are finished. Which caboose are you going to work on next? Joe
I love it Joe, Winslow tunnel for sure! If I hustle it is entirely possible to have this project wrapped up by early summer. I hope I do not get sidetracked and lose steam! haha. Caboose SLSF 1288 will be next. I want to restore her back to Mandarin orange and white and run her with caboose SLSF 1291 in the freight car color and they will be the Frisco sisters. Pipe dreams are entirely realistic! LOL
Finally, an opportunity for a sunny photograph to bring out the true colors. I love it and sometimes have to pinch myself for having the opportunity to work on this project. Today we are sanding the interior in preparation for paint. Some windows will be going back in next week too.
Windows are starting to go back in, fun to contrast the difference from 4 years ago. Notice the plated window on the left side, we were lucky to get the replacement window from caboose SLSF 1292.
Fantastic work, Paul!!! Definitely looks better than when you started, caboose SLSF 1291 has a royal look to it now. Frisco is king of the rails and your caboose proves that. Joe
The cold weather has brought the work on caboose SLSF 1291 to a pause. I love to work on SLSF 1291, it is fun and rewarding, but cold weather makes it more like work and less like fun. We had a really good 3 months from September to November. Now I am going to wait on warm weather in spring to get back to work and get this caboose finished up. Next July she turns 50 and if we push really hard we can hopefully have a lot completed by then. Thanks everyone for the kind words and moral support. It means a lot and makes this project more fun.
Haha, when get up in the mornings lately and look at the thermometer on the back porch, it has been reading about 20 degrees By the time I finish with my regular workday routine, I am ready to warm up in my train building and sell stuff on eBay or just repair Lionel and Marx toy trains.
Hi Joe, Overall progress has been very slow, I have not done anything in almost 2 years! Time gets by so quickly, but I have set aside some time in October this year to get busy again. I worked a few hours over the weekend and installed the window guides in the long body sides, and installed one of the body side windows. I need to finish installing all the windows and then focus on interior paint. I am enthused about the project again and will be working steadily on her so watch for some updates in October.
Paul, Great news! So glad to see you are back to working on your Frisco cabooses. Looking forward to following your hard work and progress. Hope this helps. Thanks! Mark
