I will be happy to send you some, but think about this. The paint is PPG industrial urethane enamel and it has 4 parts made up of color, hardener, reducer, and accelerator. I mix it 3 parts color to 1 part hardener, 1 part reducer and then 6 ounces of accelerator for every mixed gallon. The paint is pretty heavy so you would need to mix maybe 4 parts color to 1 part hardener and then possibly 5 parts reducer to get it thin enough to paint models. You will just have to use trial and error to get the mix correct. If you want some, just say yes, and I will find some suitable containers.
On the other hand, a sample chip for comparison might be handy to get a color blend right for the HO caboose. If it was possible to go back in a time machine, I suppose a couple 3" x 4" pieces of primed metal could have been sprayed with the color coat while painting the caboose. Retaining these in the classic "cool, dark" place would provide a record of the original color as well as a sample to aid mixing for someone trying to duplicate the color.
This yellow border is the mask for the white letters. We plan to put all the masks on in the next couple days and are looking forward to seeing the original FRISCO letters and numbers back in place. I am really getting excited!!
Paul, You have come a long way since I saw caboose SLSF 1291 for the first time. It was a real mess, but now looks like a million bucks. We have enjoyed the progress reports along the way and are excited to see it completed soon. Great job!!! Joe
We put all the masks on today for the graphics that get painted white. Even the SOUTHEAST...SOUTHWEST on the cupola and also the high numbers on the ends. We will do the coonskin at a later time since it is two colors. I was very happy to get the large ship it logos on there without a hitch, they are pretty big and intimidating. I had my wife come by and give us a hand placing them. We are now covering all the rest of the body and will be painting the white on tomorrow. Fun, fun, fun.
Paul, Looking forward to seeing the completed application of paint. It will not be long before your done. Are you going to have a christening party when you finish the caboose? Joe
Caboose SLSF 1291 was completely masked and painted today. I was so excited that I went back this evening to peel some tape and take a peek. I am very pleased with the results. Joe, I do want to have some type of christening or celebration, but I am still a few months away at least. Need to install windows, paint the interior, upholster the seats, wire the caboose generator, lighting, add the plumbing and all. I will get done at some point though. haha
Cloudy day makes a dark image, but I could not resist rolling her outside to have a look. Next order of business is the coonskin and correcting the stairs.
