4-8-2 SLSF 4304 The 4304 is seen nose-down in the Lindenwood Yard roundhouse turntable pit sometime presumably in the late 1930s. 4-8-2 SLSF 1506 is adjacent to the steam derrick, assisting in removing the locomotive from the pit. It is presumed there are cables tied between the two locomotives. The shadow of the turntable on the right indicates it is positioned nearly perpendicular to the locomotive in the pit. Photographer unknown.
For your information. Here is a scan of a Union Tank Car (UTLX) mailer from a series done a few decades ago depicting Howard Fogg paintings of steam and diesel locomotives. This is one of a little seen, little reproduced Fogg painting of 4-8-2 SLSF 4304 blasting along with a "Fast Freight". Neat huh? I just found this in a file of pictures of my former company's tank car fleet. The pictures are of new tank cars my division manufacturing operation bought, actually leased, during my watch. I really enjoyed that assignment - over 12 years, we obtained many cars from ACFX, SHPX, and UTLX to renew the fleet. Ken
Excellent painting. Howard Fogg? Would it be possible to attach it as a hi-resolution image jpeg for use as wall paper?
That one didn't make it into the Fogg book by Hill and Chione. Nice one, and not one that I've seen before.
