Great modeling everyone! I haven't gotten much done of any consequence as far as modeling this week seem to be working on a lot of stuff but not getting anywhere. Here is the Class SD40-2 the SL-SF 950. Got in weathered up a bit and into service it goes. I really gotta start getting rid of some of these. Just as soon as I get tired of them LOL, which means I better build another display case to store them in. Thanks for stopping by
I worked last night so I have not taken any pics. Everybody else's looks great. Tom I'd love to see the fleet of 40s! Nice work.
Back to the MKT truck again this week. Wont look like a lot of change but there is for the time consuming little parts. Hood ornament and headlights are done: Mirrors, horn and marker lights that were white metal castings: Pulley and taillights done: Curtains on the back of the service bed made from tissue paper: Small generator built from scrap box pieces: Windows cut from paper templates:
Thanks Tom. I appreciate you checking this thing out. BTW I will be painting stuff this week and will take plenty of pics for the il paint weathering for a quick how to, or how I do at least.
Worked on my Bowser Connie more this week. I filed the frame and got the drivers all on the track. It still had problems, as my drawbar was too short--I liked the way the spacing looked, but the tender caused the loco to derail on curves. I made new a drawbar and ran it on the layout. It still slips when pulling cars, so it may need more weight. I tweaked my Athearn Genesis 2-8-2 and ran it on my friend's layout: Needs weight, too.
Sadly no modeling progress this week, except for watching "how to" layout frame building videos and the replacement of the rear axle seal on the 1:1 scale 1968 F100 "Bessie". Yes, its my daily driver. The plan was to drive it for 5 years after resto-modding it. If it'll make it another 14 months, then its "mission accomplished".
Good job, Ozarktraveler! The railroad in the background of your photo eases the post close to topic (though I suppose we deduct points for the reporting marks on the green hoppers... )
Lol... those are the tracks where I captured the hopper with the SLSF reporting marks some years back. Shared here someplace.
Good stuff guys. The 68 is sharp. Seal shouldn’t be a big deal. Is that a 9” rear? Great colors on that truck.
Yes, its a 9" rear. It wasn't hard. In fact, it was a little too easy. Feel like I dodged a bullet. I had gotten a loaner "puller" but I pulled the axle by hand, no chain, no tool, not even a grunt, eek... for as you know, the axle is only held in by the friction of the wheel bearing against the rear end housing. I did use the tool for reinstallation. Thanks for the color complements. I'll share a "before" photo but I don't want to hijack the thread anymore than I have. My 70+ yr old dad and I did it as a project together.
Steve -- I hope you're NOT going to let me down? I expect to see those running lights on top of the cab to be lit before this build is over?
HA, Sherrel can I make up for it if there are tiny cigarette butts in the ashtray and a coffee cup for the dash?
Craig that is even more impressive seeing the before photo. Thanks. I have several 73-79 Fords myself. Including the one in my avatar photo.
Thoroughly enjoying the updates, gents. I have been woefully negligent in keeping up. The workshop's in the midst of a rearranging/cleaning so not much else happening. My pin vise also isn't gripping my #79 or #80 drill bits so I'm about to declare it 4-F and move on, but that's another hold-up for me. Best Regards,
They are from the 2009 Toyota color palette. The blue matches my wife's car, the silver kept them in the same palette, so they would look right together. The metallic and clearcoat shine really highlight the truck's bodylines.
