I received the shipment of 4500s this afternoon and wanted to post some initial photos. The engines are beautiful! I can't comment on how they run since I haven't tried that yet. This will make some of you happy.
Boy, they are gorgeous!!! Its a good thing that I model in large scale now! I am afraid the wife just would not understand! I really like that center photo. Wonder where I saw that before?? :0) Dan
I finally picked up mine today after being on the road for a while and man are they ever beautiful. They now reside in my display case surrounded by my Grand Trunk Western engines, which of course are dwarfed by these monsters. Steve
Uncle Dave's has one (4502 oil tender - freight lettering) listed on e bay for $1,650. http://cgi.ebay.com/BRASS-GLACIER-P...wItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item5d27c4656c He must be W0QQ. Don is WB0ECM. What is this with hams in model railroading? According to qrz.com, W0QQ is: CHARLES H NEELAND, III 30820 W 90TH ST DE SOTO, KS 66018-9515 73, Doug
I finally have Tsunami decoders installed in my three. Took me a long time and a long learning curve but I finally whipped them. I've dirtied up the 4524 and the other two are next. The single wire between engine and tender is for the backup light. The models have working headlight, backup light, classification lights and a light on the inside of the cab.
I was supposed to get one of these beauties, but was never contacted that they were in. I just wonder how long it will take to see one on Ebay in pieces where someone tried to turn one of these works of art into something from another road. It breaks my heart to see FRISCO steamers painted for another railroad on ebay or anywhere. Hopefully someday I will get my GPM FRISCO 4500 Series. With everything going on for me right now, I am sure it wont be long. I just signed a 2 year contract with EVINRUDE Outboard Motors and 13 weeks from March 5th I will be in a commercial on every outdoor channel in the Nation, and on the same day my Magazine Ad for them will be in Every outdoor and sports magazine, IN THE WORLD! I am so excited....Now Monday, I will be doing the same with Chevy Trucks! So A few More Frisco Steamers are definitely on the to buy list for the near future!
I don't get why model manufacturers don't make a more "generic" 4-8-4?? A more "customizable" (Is that a word??) engine. Maybe as if there were a "USRA" 4-8-4?? One without the Santa Fe boxcar size tender; a "Daylight" shroud or a UP etc. Vanderbilt tender. Rock Island had a BUNCH of 4-8-4's. So did MP, Wabash and Burlington. Also larger model steam locomotives are usually more trouble free (Especially in N scale). I'd rather have an engine that looked "something" like a Frisco--Rather than "NOTHING" like a Frisco... Tom
The numbers that went with the FFF "wing" were slightly smaller and placed somewhat to the rear of center. The "Hungerford" era numbers were larger and centered. I believe the white running board stripes and white driver rims didn't last very long. Reviewing some photos, it looks like the white running board edges lasted lomger than the white wheel rims. Tom Edit: The numbers on the eBay Glacier Park 4502 (Oil burner) should be yellow (Imitation gold) instead of white.
Terry, Are you wanting a pre-Hungerford unit? Since the Northerns came out so late I think the FFF logo wasn't on them very long, maybe 44/45 to maybe 47/48 (whenever Hungerford became president). Unless you specifically want a FFF unit, the Hungerford scheme (which is no scheme at all, really) is probably what these units wore most of their work lives. Tom, Don, Karl, feel free to fine tune my understanding above. I don't have my Frisco Power book with me at work. Boy those GP 4500s look amazing.
