AMB Silex Grain Elevator laserkit. Will use to represent the Armstrong Elevator in Harrisonville along with a Chooch Purina Feed Store that I built several years ago.

Rix grain elevator combined with Morse Production grain bins and a Blair Line outhouse (using for equipment/control shed) along with a scratchbuilt truck unloading pit for Kelso's grain elevator in Blairstown.

Plastruct propane tank and Gold Medal Models chain link fence to use as Heet Gas Co. propane tank and dealer in Blairstown.

And four Blair Line Section Car Toolhouses to use in Harrisonville, Blairstown, Dodson and Harvey. I get a really good price on these!

Weathered some cars using Rustall and Bragdons weathering powders. My first time for using either product and I liked both.

All structures in N scale for my Clinton Sub layout. Been very busy building structures and working on scenery the last few months. Will get another track plan and some photos posted one of these days.

    Merry Christmas!

Having limited success designing and making decals for the Black inti-skid walkways for Frisco GP 40-2,50, and SD 38-2's and 40-2's. With the different porch lengths and anti climbers, and all it has been a challenge. I am in hopes that micro-scale will pick it up, they are interested. Tom Stolte at Odballs is too busy right now.
These will be able to be added to finished units so dis-assembly will not be necessary. Many different roads have walkways with this treatment. And it is a nice detail IMHO.
    Merry Christmas to all

Good idea, Tom. Hope Microscale goes with it.

I talked with them several years ago about doing the green anti-glare panel for an F-unit. They didn't want to do it because every different F & E HO model nose is a bit different, and they were worried about getting the decal shape correct. Guess that was a valid excuse.

And, I say again - your stuff looks really good! What color red/orange do you use?

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    Thanks Ken
Micro-scale is happy to produce as long they don't have to do any of the design work or research:rolleyes:
They did the anti-glare panels for GP/SD's, wide cabs and such units but none for one of the most mass produced loco's ever made huh?
The Red Orange is Model Masters (Boyd) Sunburst Orange #52708.
these 2 loco's are RTR Athearn, I masked off the White & windows and sprayed a light even coat of the Sunburst, then after taking a few q-tips and alcohol I removed most of the factory FRISCO, then masked around the engine comp doors, and then an even light coat of white there, clear coated the whole thing, add a few decals and details and put them to work:)|-|

Very nice work. Extremely prototypical. The black walkway is a detail I've always overlooked. Well done!

    Thanks Howard,
    |-| From what I can see thru the limited roof shots of modern O/W Frisco power, the black walkways started with the GP40-2's, all of the GP 7's,35's,38's as well as SD 45's did not get the black inti-skid treatment.
I cannot find a roof shot of a GP15-1 The only stuff I can tell that got it was the GP40-2's Sd 38/40-2's amd I am sure the GP 50 got it, but I have no proof of it, but is gonna get it on my Frisco :D |-|
    Thanks again,
    Tom H.

    Tom -

There is a pic somewhere on frisco.org (I think) that shows two guys standing on the walkways alongside the short nose hood of GP50 SLSF/BN 3100. You can see the walkway under the guy standing on the engineer's side - it is orange, not black.

    Thanks Ken,
After some digging I found the link you refer to. Yep, its not Black. You saved me a great deal of time here Ken, I appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Re: Musings on outhouses?

@meteor910 (Yeah, I'm late in responding, as usual.)

The old timers in Seligman used to say that a good outhouse had two baskets of corn cobs. One for white cobs, one for brown cobs. Protocol was to use a brown cob, then you used a white cob to see if you needed another brown cob. That's as it was told to me... that's all I'm sayin'... :D

    Hey Tom,

Where do you get the Quanah Route decals? I'd like to get a few tankers done with the road.

    Thanks!

I am back to laying track in the diesel shop area of my layout, when finished, I have to finish the 13 foot long plate deck bridge ramp for my elevated wye. After that, I have to build all of steeel mill kits and place them on the layout so I can lay the industrial tracks into the steel mill complex, that should take me all of 2011

I made the decals with an old cantankerous ALPS printer, I am getting error messages more and more on it and might not be making decals for a while. ALPS quit making these things years ago and now they don't service them anywhere either.

Great work Richard. looks like allot of work and engineering went into the bridges working around those curves.
Where did you come up with the piers?
    Thanks for sharing your work.

I made wooden casting blocks out of 1/2 " plywood that were screwed together so I could take them apart. I then pored Hydrocal into the forms to cast the piers.
The big bridge in the back ground is 580 HO scale feet long, that's about 7 actual feet, scratch built out of sytrene with hand layed ties and rail on all bridges. Took me about six months to complete it, it took 10 bottles of Floyquil Engine Black to paint it.

That is huge bridge. I have scratched a few deck plate girder bridges but nothing, that would even cast a shadow on this bridge. The Hydrocal piers are great too, neat thing about cast's are you can make them till you get tired of making them. I venture to guess it would take me 10 bottles of Scotch and 10 months to get this done:D
    Again great job!!
