Holy cow, are those kits? Uh, just kidding Don. Your models look fantastic....and they aren't even finished! You certainly have the scratchbuilding technique down pat. If there was only a way to share the step by step. Thanks for sharing your bevy of beatuties.

    Now that's pretty!

Thanks for sharing, Don. Looks like your Shops have been turnin' them out even with the move.

Once the spot 40 is ready to roll, when will we see 2-10-4 #37 in 1:87?

    Gullibly yours,

No, bless it's heart, the 37 has gone to that big roundhouse in the sky. The 19 will have company in the 40 which is finished and already on the roster.
We may have to start working three shifts here soon to get this backlog cleared out.

OK, the GP15 is done, so now I have before me a Walthers N scale ADM grain elevator, which when finished will go on my HCD layout.

BTW, I'm not a steam guy, but those are some sweet-looking engines!

I'm about to finish my last project before the summer. Spring has sprung down here in Mobile so yard work and other outdoor activities will become the norm.
SD45 946 is an Athearn undecorated kit. This is one that was just released a few months ago. This is the SP version. I chose this model site unseen because of the nose headlight. Turns out the nose headlight isn't a gyrolight but two lamps under the gyrolight. I wasn't happy about this but went ahead with the projects anyway.
946 is the last of the trio I did. The other two are 945 and 947. I did not install a decoder in this one so I could run it at the club.
Overall I'm not pleased with the Athearn model. Two of the three hardly run better than blue box kits. This one is the best running. Theres the nose light and it came with detail parts to do several version but no air hose's, horns, beacon or correct pilot. And the handrail were attached to the sprues in a manner that made them very difficult to remove.
Short of stripping a Kato or P2K this model will have to do.

Actually, I am in the midst of several projects. I have to finish laying the track for the inside main, I have 3 turnouts I am awaiting to finish that, then I have soldering, and testing to do. I am also trying to get my Ft. Scott Depot completed. I have 2, 2-10-2's that need to go to the paintshop to be transformed into FRISCO livery. I have ballasting to do. I still have track to lay from the yard, out onto the main, then into the industrial area of the layout. As far as completing a project. I had 3. I painted and decaled my Sunset Brass FRISCO 2-10-0 and decaled it #1632. I painted and decaled FRISCO 4500 which is finally back home with a new set of valve gears. And I layed down, tested, soldered, ballasted, and sceneried my storage and engine service facility tracks. Now that part of the layout looks very much like railroad tracks would in the winter. I have been meaning to take some pictures of the layout progress but I am going to post another thread to explain my delay.

Just finished a somewhat generic model of a 40' outside sheathed wood boxcar. 2.5" = 1' scale, 12" gauge. It is a cheap and dirty model, built without a lot of detail (they tend to get damaged out on the railroad anyway). All scratchbuilt, except I did use some old WF&P wheelsets.

The boxcar probably won't make the trip up north to Glencoe anytime soon. All I can fit on my trailer is a locomotive and one car, so I usually take a flatcar with seats for passengers.

Now that this is done, maybe it's time to get started on the tankcar...

Some of the things I have been working on. All except the Rock Island car are resin kits. The RI is a Silver Streak. The first steam engine is a Mantua (Husdon) with a scratch built oil bunker and Soundtraxx decoder. The 2nd steam engine is a IHC 2-8-2 with a dog house (generic) and sound decoder.

I noticed those streamlined passanger cars in the background. What are those? I have a set of the Bev-Bel ones but those look like the new Walthers Texas Special PRR run through sleepers.

Nice work, Jerome! Is the double-sheathed SL-SF boxcar the Westerfield kit?

    Best Regards,

The Streamline Passenger cars are OK Streamliners (HERKIMER TOOL & MODEL WORKS) that I painted and detailed.

The first 5 cars are Westerfields. The RI Auto Box is a Silver Streak and the Covered Hopper is a Funaro & Camerlengo.

    Thanks,
    Jerome

Well, I voted 'diesel locomotive' but it was really the F7A converted slug that's in Hugo, OK.

Not quite the same scale as James' boxcar, this is a 1.6" to the foot version of a REA express refridgerator car. Observant viewers will see the HO scale car that I copied it from sitting on the roof. It's fairly easy to copy HO dimensions, just multiply times 11. Plus or minus a half inch is OK in this size.:D

Behind it you can see the top of 1060, having it's flues cleaned in preparation for a live steam meet in Caney, OK. next weekend. Steamers are filthy creatures, but that's half the fun!

Very nice! I don't have the patience (or skill) to put that level of detail on my stuff. By the way, I do the same thing with N scale models; if I find a model of something I want to build, I multiply the model's dimensions by 33.33, N scale being 1:160 and my stuff at 1:4.8. Enjoy the meet next weekend!

There is some awesome modeling going on here. I enjoy everyone's sharing their modeling efforts.
There are some world class modelers here in all scales. I toss in a few I have been working on.|-|

    Thanks Ken,
It is a P2K 8000 gal car. I wish I knew what these were for. I know they used to haul water from Roaring Springs.
But I don't think all, if any, these cars were for that, it looks like the Q had a few of these cars.
That ground water down there in places so so hard from the massive Gypsum rock formations all over that country.
I wonder if these were used to transport water or water treatment or the like.
    Thanks
    Tom
