What was the last project you worked on: Layout Structure Steam Locomotive Diesel Locomotive Freight Car Passenger Car Caboose
Howdy, I'm working on Sheepscot's Cat's Head Pier, AKA Gulf Sand and Gravel on the Texas Western. It's as close to starting with a two by four and razor blades as I've ever experienced. It is mostly a large trestle with a loading crane on top, all made of wood. It will look nice but takes a lot of time to build it board on board. Here are a few photos of the kit and progress to date. Next up will be the completion of an AMB Frisco caboose (only need power for the marker lights), then passenger cars (HW) for a while. Just finished an AMB caboose and am working on my spot engine. Also finished the water car about the same time as the caboose. Before that, Frisco sawtooth boxcar and a Sunshine O/B box. Thinking of doing another caboose, this time like the 103 with the baggage doors. Wish I could find more photos of it besides the one in the Frisco Museum's edition of Joe Collias' book.
For the last few weeks, I've been trying to focus on projects that I had started in the past, but then lost interest in and let sit around for months/years/decades. The most recent completion was a Red Caboose WP PFE reefer, first started on Jan, 07. Prior to that, a Red Caboose Frisco Diesel fuel tank car, also from early 2007. Next, hopefully (only needs decals), is a Central Valley NP stock car, the one with the radial roof, that has been sitting there staring at me for about three years. Ken
I'm working on two Free-moN modules, one based on Blairstown and the other based on the crossing in Harrisonville. I have most of the cork roadbed down at this point, and I'm almost finished with my Blairline Blairstown depot. I'm still working out how to include a working train order signal on the front of the depot (from the photos I've seen, it looked a lot like a switch target hanging on the front of the operators bay). I'll echo that! I probably have 6 or 7 items on the workbench but I've most recently been working on a standard wooden depot (roughly based on photos of the Winona, MO depot) along with a tool/motor car house. Visual proof attached less I seem that I'm always talking big but not actually working. The truth is more that I work cosmically slow! Case in point: note the old Sunshine USRA rebuilt DS XM in the lower left hand corner. I bet I bought it 8 years ago and it's been waiting for paint for at least a few years. The structures will go onto the small 1'x5' module that my daughter and I have been working on so that we can have a "train day" at her playschool. I fully expect to some repair work to it after 4 and 5 year old hands work it over, but it's no fun if they can't touch.
You folks are inspirational. I'd hate to admit to how many kits have been sitting unbuilt for multiple decades. Just so I'd have something to post, I just ordered an AMB structures kit - no. 135, the Ellington store. It's a nice size, plus I'm a fan of the music Duke wrote. AMB kits are also fun. Now, to design a layout to put it on. Doug

I have two projects that are near completion. I have a Stewart U-boat that has been languishing in the box for years. I even had all the detailing pieces on hand. After years of using Floquil, this was first attempt with acrylic paint. The model has been painted basic black, and has been awaiting the arrival of Oddball decals, which have been on order for several months. Years ago, I believe that one of the editors of MRC praised the virtues of Campbell’s wood Howe truss. The gist of the editorial stated that even though his layout had no need of such a structure, the bridge had such character that he just had to have one. I found a Campbell pony truss version at a swap meet, and in lapse of logic that matched the MRC editor, I bought it. It’s a close match to the Howe trusses that spanned the James River at Ozark on the Chadwick Br. The model lacks a few bolt/nut castings, and then I need to stain it. I am undecided as to which gauge to use. I am afflicted with the narrow gauge bug, and may put 3-foot gauge or dual gauge track on it. Either way, I’ use code 55 rails.
Doug, Until your note, the hand rails had not been removed from their original plastic sleeves. In what way are they ugly? -keb-
Mike, Here is my latest completed Frisco modeling project. It is a MofW tool car from a LaBelle 1905 wood baggage car. I love the car, but this was the only way it would fit into a 1950-era setting. It would be tempting to model the early 1900's with such rolling stock. I will also attach the rest of my MofW work train to go along with the baggage car. Enjoy. Here's my ER models FP7 that I'm detailing: See http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=1924 I stripped a Reading model that I picked up for $20. I shaved off the cast on grabs and and have been detailing. I asked my LHS for a Nathan air chime, and I got Cal Scale 316, which says Nathan on the package but Ken indicated it's a Leslie. Any idea what I can use for grills? I thought I'd get the F7B grill from Detail Associates and trim it.
Last model project... well all the recent talk of the FAs inspired me to take blade and file to my Life-Like units and put proper number boards on them. They're beautiful in their own right, but would be so much better with BIG boards! Still need to re-finish the surface/curves of the nose after surgery, then apply the detail parts. -Mike
Well, two projects, actually. I finished up detailing, painting & decaling an HO scale Proto2000 GP7 in the full black & yellow scheme, and am almost finished "dolling up" a Walthers Trainline GP15-1.
Just finished a VERY SHORT Canadian Pacific caboose. One of 2 home builts that ran in BC. This is N Scale and was amde from an Atlas standard steel caboose............................
Well. let's see. There are these 5. A 1064, a 1200, 3744, a 1400 and the 40 spot. I guess the 1400 and spot engine are closest to being finished, but by no means that close. The 1200 needs a tender built. I have one more that I haven't seen since we moved, an Athearn USRA 2-8-2 with all new stuff (cab, doghouse, etc) that's also close. I have no idea what box it is in and I have enough to do right now.
