Turning to the Frisco Nation for a little help in finding some parts for a couple SL-SF SW1500's in the works. These Smokey Valley side frames look like the ones on an Athearn SW7 but have roller bearings instead of Friction bearings. If you have any, or know where any are, please let me know. Would like enough for 2 locomotives.

Yes Sir. I could but I would need those side frames too. I have found one set so far that I will have to drill out. Should be pretty easy to mill the sloped journals off, drill out and like you say glue the DW part in. I already have the roller bearings.
Still need a set of the older side frames.

    Tom,

I have a spare set of AAR sideframes with friction bearings, is that what you need?

Yes Sir, those are what I need, cant seem to find any Smokey Valley side frames. Been trying to call Them for a few days but no luck as of yet. No message the phone just rings and no bounce on the email I sent. Who knows??
Are you in Sweden? Might get some closer to home and avoid cost the Int'l shipping, really dont know how much it would be to ship from Sweden to Western US. :)
Thanks for the help. Always seem to get something going on this site.

Yes, I live in Sweden :)

The sideframes are light so postage won't be too exorbitant: $2 if under 50g (about 2oz), $4.40 if under 100g (about 4oz).

    Tom -

Are these for your new SW1500's? I'm confused about what you want - the Frisco SW1500's rode on AAR Type A switcher trucks, same as the earlier SW's and NW's, but the SW1500's all did have 65 MPH rated roller bearing trucks. I assume that is what is on the new Athearn SW1500? (The old Blue Box Athearn SW1500 came on Flexicoil r/b trucks)

Anyway, let me know for sure what you need as I can help out too if needed. I have:
o Two pair of AAR-A side frames with standard bearings (erroneously called "friction bearings", fits Athearn ..... (All types of bearings generate some friction)
o Two pair of AAR-A side frames with roller bearings & bearing caps, fits Athearn
o A third pair of AAR-A side frames with roller bearings & bearing caps, fits Athearn
o Two pair of Flexicoil side frames with roller bearings, fits Athearn

    Ken ('da truck guy)

ps - The bearings used in the Frisco SW1500's AAR-A trucks were rated for 65 MPH (timetable limit on the SW1500's was 45 MPH however), and since they had m/u capability, they did sometimes venture out on the road for transfer and short local duty. Their range was limited though as they did not have a head on board.

AHAA Ken "Da Truck Man" my friend and more times than I can count, savior for parts....
What I have are 2 Athearn BB SW1500's that are currently riding on Fexicoil trucks and I want to put the right trucks under them.
The locos were given to me by kdedgin, all I did was pay for the shipping (another thread).
I need enough AAR-A side frames with roller bearings for 2 locomotives (8 side frames) :) PLEEZE

    Ken,

Check your ETT's with regard to the 65 MPH limit....

Karl is correct (as usual!), I should have said the SW1500's were limited to 45MPH by timetable restrictions. But, the roller bearings in their AAR-A trucks were rated for up to 65MPH. I revised my earlier post.

Although it is not a real long run, the SW1500's, usually two of them, frequently headed up the Chrysler turn from Lindenwood out to the two assembly plants in Fenton.
