OK, in spite of my promise not to bug the group with more sales offers, I need to do another one.

I need to cut into the books that I'm taking south to Naples deeper than I had originally proposed. Still more books than shelves there is the problem.

So here is a listing of very well known and valuable books that by any measure are offered at a bargain cost to frisco.org. Sale has to be quick, and payment has to be immediate, such as via PayPal "Friend/Family" option where there is no fee. Shipment will be via USPS, either Priority Mail or Book Rate.

All the books are in excellent shape, have been read by me, and have their dust jackets, which are also usually in good or better shape. Those of you who have read some of my books know my usual practice is to loop a short strip of Scotch tape around the book cover at the top and bottom, front and back, to keep the jacket on the book.

So, here goes. No book will be priced more than $30, plus shipping. Most are $25 or less.

"Some Classic Trains", by Arthur Dubin, Kalmbach HC - $25
"More Classic Trains", by Arthur Dubin, Kalmbach, HC - $30 (covers the Frisco and the Katy)
"Cabooses of the Missouri Pacific Lines", by G. Michels, MPHS, HC - $20
"The "Pennsylvania Railroad", 1940's-1950's, a pictorial, by Don Ball, Elm Tree, HC - $20
"Pennsy Power", by Alvin Stauffer, Stauffer, HC - $25
"Pennsy Power II", by Alvin Stauffer, Sauffer, HC - $25
"Pennsy Power III", by Alvin Stauffer, Stauffer, HC - $25
"Thoroughbreds" (NYC's Hudson), by Alvin Stauffer, Stauffer, HC - $25
"The Texas & Pacific Railway, 1925-1975", by Joe Collias, M&M Books, HC - $22 (autographed by Joe)
"The Santa Fe's Big Three", by S. Kip Farrington, McKay, HC - $20
"The 20th Century", by Lucius Beebe, Howell North, HC, $20
"The Overland Limited", by Lucius Beebe, Howell North, HC, $20
"Baltimore & Ohio's Capital Limited and National Limited", by Joe Welsh, Voyageur, HC - $25

OK, that's it for now. As I said, ASAP is the word of the day. We close on this house a week from tomorrow, we will be packed this coming Friday, and our truck will load next Monday, to give you a feel for the urgency.

If I don't sell these, my alternative strategy is to "St Louis Book Fair" them, which would break my heart, or to take them to Naples, place them in storage, and then as time allows eBay them at higher prices than quoted above.

    Thanks for looking.

    Ken

Here's a late addition which I should have included in the above sale notice .....

    - My complete set of SLSF Track Chart Booklets, 28 volumes in all, 11.5" x 5.5", all in excellent shape, most are mint. The two volumes for St Louis to Springfield have been used a bit, but are still in great shape.

These are all up-to-date to early 1982; yes, that is after the BN "merger", but little of significance was changed in the first merged year (1981) so these charts are still essentially our Frisco at merger time. And, yes, each booklet has a BN logo on the cover. Of note, the first volume, Eureka (mp 25.6) - Newburg (mp 119.1), does include the hard to get strip from St Louis (mp 0.0) to Eureka/Pacific (mp 30.0) which for some reason was hard to get back when I obtained these from a relative in Springfield. I added it.

The entire set of 28 track chart volumes of the Frisco, for $40 plus shipping. Same procedure as noted in the above posting.

    Ken,

If you don't sell everything here, post on TrainBoard. People will buy.

    Keith -
Thank you. The two Dubin's ("Some Classic Trains" and "More Classic Trains") are yours. I appreciate your speedy response. These are two very nice books, in particular the 2nd "More" version, which covers the Frisco (and Katy) trains.

Cost is $25 for "Some", $30 for "More", a total of $55.00. These two guys are quite heavy, so the obvious choice for shipping to you is a Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box, $13.45, which includes tracking and $50 of insurance. So the total is $55.00 plus $13.45, equal to $68.45. Please send that amount to me via the PayPal "Friends and Family" option, which has no service charge and is appropriate for frisco.org transactions. Send to meteor910@mindspring.com

Thanks Keith. You will enjoy these - I've had them for a long time and well remember how neat it was to read them. I bought "More" in a shop in Manhattan (AHC, America's Hobby Center, remember them?) while there on a soaper (Colgate and Lever) visit and read most of it on Amtrak coming back to Chicago. Don't recall if it was out of Grand Central (ex-NYC) or Penn Station (ex-PRR), but I know I enjoyed it. Changed to the StL Amtrak in Chicago and rode it down to Kirkwood.

I sold my Audi three weeks ago - that was tough as I very much loved that car (2010 A6 4.2 V-8 Sport). Selling these books just because I don't have room is also hard to take, but just like the Audi, is the right thing to do at this time. Enjoy them!

    Roger -
Thanks! The MoP caboose book weight 4 pounds, which means we are in Priority Mail flat rate territory - $13.45 for a medium box. The total would thus be $20 for the book, plus $13.45 = $33.45.

Get your check in the mail tomorrow - we can only accept mail here up through next Wednesday, so timing is tight!

    Thank you very much!

On September 16, Ken wrote under the topic "NYC"

"I have been a member for quite some time of the excellent ACL/SAL Historical Society ..... of which several others in frisco.org are also members (or officers!). I have all the issues of their excellent quarterly publication "Lines South" from 2005 to 2012, 32 issues in all. I have read all of these; otherwise they are in excellent condition."

Well, went over and picked up these along with a couple other books. The first two magazines I picked up had articles that mentioned Frisco connections. "The train had a Frisco GP-38 ..." or "The train from Memphis had a Frisco locomotive behind the SCL diesel in the lead..." (this is an SCL-oriented publication, remember :) )

These are going to be fun. Thanks, Ken, enjoy Florida!

Thanks George - enjoy your readings!

FYI to all - whatever did not sell is now gone to the St Louis Book Fair. The sale is over. Thanks to all of you who participated; I greatly appreciate it and hope you enjoy your purchases.

And frankly, I do not understand why at least one of you did not go for the Staffer book "Thoroughbreds", about the terrific NYC Hudsons. That is a very good book.

Ken I saw a utube video that said 2 guys could push one of those into the RH.

Sorry I am more of a western modeler, plus it takes a lot to package and send my way.

I hope you get to see many years at your new digs.

St. Louis is losing a pillar of her community to Florida! But the Florida railfan community will definitely be on an uptick...:)

We met the new owners of our home during their walk-through yesterday. Very nice people.

Guess what he plans to do with my former model railroad room - where the layout was and the bookshelves. He's going to turn it into a wine cellar! Ha!, all right!
