Stoffles Landing AR

  1. Can anyone shed light on this location? There is a listing for abandonment of a line from Wilson to Stoffles Landing, 1.52 miles in 1940 (several web sites including this site). I can not find on the web, any maps that show this location, apparently it no longer exists. Nor can I find who built the line or when. I have a Construction History map that shows the line, and says that it was built by the Mississippi River Western RR, but no construction date. I can not find anything on the name "Mississippi River Western Railroad" either. I can find the name, Mississippi River Northwestern RR in a list of Arkansas RR's, which may be the railroad, but there is nothing given about dates, region, and successor if any. Thanks in advance if anyone can fill in the blanks.

Built 1897-98 by Mississippi River Northwestern Rwy. The 1931 Frisco Annual Report indicates that the Frisco bought the aforementioned road between Wilson and Stoffles Landing. The purchased included 1.68 miles of main line track and 0.93 miles of yard tracks and sidings. I am looking at the annual report to see if purchase price is listed.

Stoffles Landing was just southeast of Wilson, the Historical Aerials website has a 1954 map showing the line... https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer...The info I have it was built in 1903 by the Mississippi River Western RR, purchased by Frisco 1931, abandoned 1940. The difference in mileage 1.68/1.52 is due to not all of it was abandoned in 1940, .16 miles were retained in Wilson until 1967 when the Wilson Northern was abandoned...I can't remember offhand were I obtained this, possibly from the Frisco records at Rolla...Roger
