What type of railcars would be used to transport milk from 1948 to 1952? Thank you for the help!!! I was looking at Tichy's website and saw this wood outside braced boxcar and was wondering if Frisco's wood boxcars looked like them? Joe
Milk Tank Cars, Express Reefers, and as express on Baggage Cars all of which were handled on passenger trains. I tend to believe that the tanks cars were a Northeast affectation.
That is close to Frisco SS boxcars, but I wasn't aware Tichy made one like that. I think the diagonals on Frisco cars go the other way. http://www.steamerafreightcars.com/gallery/boxauto/slsf162854main.html From: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/ob-box-car-163235.6843/
Beautiful pic of what was a classic Frisco boxcar from the good old days! I don't have one here to look at, but check the Accurail outside braced Frisco boxcars. K
Charles Wherry posted a photo from Lowry City ( on the Clinton sub ). That shows the milk cans on a baggage cart in the process of either being unloaded from the baggage car or ready to be loaded on the baggage car: Riding the Highline 1950 Paul
That's a nice photo, Paul! I will definitely keep the photo in mind when I model my passenger trains. It falls within my time era, 1948 to 1952. Joe
How did I miss that thread before? What a goldmine! Accurail has two Frisco 6 panel outside braced SS cars, #7108 and #7203: They are missing the angle brackets at the end, but are otherwise close. The biggest problem is that Accurail makes all of their wood cars with a fishbelly frame and these cars had a straight frame. I cut some Evergreen channel and glue it down between the bolsters, then add some brake parts and rigging (here on MKT car):
I was looking at Tichy's website and found that the boxcar is not for sale, they are selling decals for L&N. Need to find a boxcar from another N scale company. Joe
