i am sorry for not answering your question sooner. I used that old ALPs printer and made the decals.
    Thanks for the comments

    Re: Making Trees

Tom, just came back across this post. First, I think you've found a great way for making cheap, easy decidious trees. I'm just wishing I'd had my kids gather some sagebrush when they went to Colorado with the grandparents this summer.

Regarding pine trees, I recall an article years ago that involved simply using dowell rods tapered at the top end and distressed with a modeler's saw; the needles were old floor buffer pads cut to shape. I think it may have been from a MR in the late '80s; they seemed to be a quick, easy way to make background pines. I'm not sure they would have passed the 3-foot rule, however.

    Best Regards,

Been on a scenery blitz trying to get down to the main yard. I got this done over the last couple weeks. It is not up to where I want to be yet got to add fences trees and many, many details, panting, on, and on still but at least, a derailment should not go all the way to the floor now:D All in all, about 60 linear feet of scenery & 30 ft of roadway.
Hope you all have a safe and Happy Holiday Season.
    Regards
    Tom Holley
PS: I uploaded these in the correct order, but the website mixed everything up, wonder why it does that:mad:

Very nice work. I really like the dirt road. That's a big layout.

    Thanks Jim,
Its not nearly as nice and detailed as your work, There is just sooo much of it to do. and this is not even close to 1/2 way around the RR (30'X50') I need you to move in here for about 6 months and help me get it closer to being done:D:D:D
    Thanks

Great job, Tom; I hope you have some help with all that. It's a lot of work!
Your roads - paved and gravel - really look good. :)
I am anxious to see what you do with the few meager trees that I sent you.

Tom, If I could I would love to have a go at your layout! Your work is great and I know if your layout was only a 4xx8 (like mine) that you would have more time to turn your guns on scenery. All in good time.

Been concentrating on some basic scenery lately.
Represents about 80 linear feet of scenery. Trees on a small part of it, I don't want to ballast the track till the trees are added on the inside of the tracks. The tunnel portals are from Woodland Scenics, the concrete liner is cardboard, the blasted rock is heavy duty foil glued, and folded 5 layers thick, crumbled a bit, shaped and painted. As much as this whole scenery thing is disliked by myself, it is interesting watching thru these pictures seeing the changes. The inside of the curves where there is no backdrop has a 5 track 60 cars ea., staging/reversing loop/yard, with a sawmill in the middle. the curves are 48"-60" radius curves on the MT. Working my way Eastward down the hill towards Roaring Springs.
    Thanks

Keith or anyone, is there a way to keep these photos in order when uploading? I hope you can make sense of the pictures in the order they were upload by the site.

Tom, beautiful work. I am looking forward to seeing it all first-hand.

Regarding the upload question, the only way I have been able to control the uploads if I want them in a specific order is to do one at a time. I don't know why they won't upload in filename order. I even tried editting your post in advanced mode, managing the attachments and dragging them into numerical order to no avail.

That's looking fantastic! You're moving right along on that huge layout. You'll be featured in MR or RMC someday.

    Thanks Guys,
Thanks Keith, for trying to fix it, I think maybe I am uploading to large of picture files.
Jim I think your Zalma Branch is much more deserving than this thing.
Ken I have been busy, :D was lucky enough to be put on a reserve board of sorts for the slow period so aside from my wife just having a hip replacement, I have been "a workin" on this outfit like a madman. I am rapidly running out of fun tickets though. Gonna have to get back to work to get some rest:D
I would like to thank Rick McClellan for giving me the color of his fascia, got the paint on mine and it cheered the outfit up a bit, there was just too much Brown.
    Have fun guys,
    Tom Holley

Tom, You have dutifully impressed me .. Good Work!
I really like the sweeping 'S' curve and the way you have blended the terrain around it.
Do I maybe recognize any trees?

You know, Tom...now that I think about it, I may have surplus paint of this shade in my layout room. It's pretty similar to the color of the master bedroom at our "new" house. Believe it or not, the color works for a bedroom.

However, I think it will be well suited for our layout. I'm hopefully not too far from fascia on stage one.

Thanks for the inspiration (and to Rick, too).

    Best Regards,

    Yep Sherrel
Some of those trees are the ones you so graciously supplied to the effort. When a guy thinks he has a lot of trees set up, it doe not take long for them to disappear on this outfit. I am the only one doing this whole thing and they still go away so fast I wonder if there were a few lost or something:D
Thanks Chris, It is a nice shade of Greenish/Brownish type Olive.
All that Brown was depressing, this Green really did cheer it up.
Please show us pictures of your work, I need more ideas for scenery and stuff.

    Thanks
    Tom Holley
PS will try and resize the photos attached, dont know if I can but will try.

Re: A Little Layout Progress (resized photos)

Here we go, resized to less the 2MB to help download speeds and some captions on the photos to help keep you, "in the loop":D:D.
    Regards
    Tom Holley
PS Keith, all, I figured out how to upload in the correct order:D
Then the captions didn't come through:mad:
