I was an engineer from Ft.Worth to Sherman and Madill 1970 to 1981 then Road foreman Tulsa to Springfield from 1981 to 1984.
Welcome Dan. There is a tremendous knowledge base within the site membership. You'll add more. BTW, how did the Red River get it's name? I've always wondered. Doug, founder
Regarding the Red River, I will take a stab since my father-in-law grew up in Guthrie, OK. The Red River forms the southern border of Oklahoma for quite a distance. If you have never seen most of the soil in Oklahoma, it is mostly a very red soil that stains nearly everything it touches, especially water. I think that the color of the water is where it gets its name.
For not only those who are new members or only those who have a computer, How can we get those who were employees to write a short (1 page or something like that) of their experinces on the railroad. It need not be professional, just what it was like. I think it would be great if then someone could compile these into some form of a file that could be shared with the rest of the group.
Welcome sir! From one railroader to another, welcome aboard! Old C&O conductor here. (I know, we all cain't be Frisco folk... )
