While I'm from central Missouri I married a guy from Zalma, MO. Over the years I have done much genealogy research on both our families and became fascinated with the history of his homeland - southeast Missouri. We are both getting ready to retire and hope to spend more time with our two current interests - training our labrador retrievers for field trials and hunts tests and expanding our antique booth at a local antique mall. The later got us interested in model trains (you know, bought some at an auction on a whim) and we now have the desire to build a layout of our own and have decided to model it on the early 1900s logging industry in the swamps of southeast Missouri. Right now, I am doing lots and lots of research and slowly acquiring the scenic layout components until we actually get down to work.

Debbie, Welcome Aboard! You will be specifically interested in the work of Jim James on this site. Jim is modeling the Zalma Branch during that time frame. Use the search engine at the upper right of the site to search Zalma and you will find a lot of interesting stuff.

OK, just spent all afternoon going through the Jim James thread on Zalma and am thoroughly impressed at his work and got lots of ideas for our future layout.

Southeast, is a good direction. River Division, lots of southern homes. Try Wilson Arkansas. neat place.
