Besides Live Steam, I also tinker with vintage Marx O27 Tinplate Mechanical (wind-up) toy trains. I was curious how a Marx Mercury would look painted in Firefly colors, so this is the result. It's kind of neat that a 70+ year old toy still works!
Very nice! That's awesome! I bet you would fetch a pretty penny for it if you ever decided to sell it. Nice job!
My very first toy trains were Marx tinplate wind-ups. Of course I wasn´t even knee high to a Texas grasshopper then but had a lot of fun running the trains on the 2-rail circle of track. I had a freight with the Santa Fe tank car. The passenger was the UP´s M-10000. My mother bought little people to ride the "Streamliner". I never collected tickets from the passengers. Guess it is too late now? Great restored model! Is the new Marx still in bizz? I can´t seem to find them any longer on the web. Joe Toth
This opens up some kitbash ideas--maybe using the Model Power (Both HO and N) semi-streamline 4-6-2's!!?? The MP engines wouldn't exactly be a "bullet" Firefly, but they could be bashed to be "close" to a couple of the early Frisco streamlining experiments. 1034 and 1036 come to mind. The link you provided is a "semi streamlined loco". The difference is it's a normal loco, but it's get the flat side boards. I like the project though. Passenger cars would be cool. Ethan
