I believe the numbers in this thread are about carload lots. As I understand it, the Clinton chicks were handled as an LCL shipment in a baggage car, so they woud not be included here. That operation lasted into the 1960s, though moved from passenger trains Nos 20 and 21 to freight mixed trains Nos 58 and 58, the mixed locals. Paul
What about those open, wire sided "poultry" cars? What period were those things still being used? Anyone know? Thanks, Tom
Tom, somehow I overlooked this post. Do you happen to know the number series for these? I must say I'm intrigued by the thought. I'm not familiar with them, offhand. They sound like they'd be nothing less than a scratch building project! Best Regards,
In this thread - http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?7603-Closed-Thread I uttered the following: But, I spoke too soon. The 1943 ORER shows, under Class "S" for Stock Cars: "SP" -- Stock Car. Used in poultry trade, fitted with roof and sides usually of wire netting, fitted with shelves for storing crates of poultry and leaving space for poultrymen, feed bag and watering facilities. "SPR" -- Stock Refrigerator. A combination poultry and refrigerator car, one end to accomodate live poultry and the other end suitable for dressed poultry, butter, eggs, etc., requiring refrigeration. The SL-SF shows neither class rostered in 1943. Might have to research further and start a new thread. Best Regards,
