Speaking of fishplates, my wife and I were exploring the old Zalma branchline and our last stop was the "cut" just west of Greenbrier. Here is a shot looking east through the cut.

I walked all the way through and got a container full of dirt for scenery and I used a metal detector hoping to find an old spike. No luck on the spikes but when I was almost back to the Jeep I looked over on the steep embankment and there, on the ground half covered by leaves, was a rusty iron bar. Hurrray! Another artifact from this long gone (1934) branchline. Check out the pics and tell me that's not a fishplate.

Anyway, I'm all excited about it. I just thought it was cool because we were talking about fishplates and their various names.

Yes, that is a fish plate. Excellent find. Take it to be sand blasted. Get the crud off of it and the writing should still be there. Paint it and preserve it. Nice find!

Angle Bar, is what I thought they were, nonetheless what a great find Jim. To think it has waited all this time for you to find it. Pretty cool.

You will probably figure some ingenious way to incorporate the rehabilitated fishplate/angle bar into the layout. We await photos, whether you do or not.
