SLSF 20?? E7 I have no idea why, when or where this is. I think it may be Monett, MO It is after President Hungerford abolished all decorative painting on the steam engines. I do not even know what the occasion is, but the scene is interesting. Lineup is SLSF 183 a 4-4-0 American type, SLSF 4517 a 4-8-4 Northern type and a pair of E7As (EA7) No. 200? and No. 200?.
Just ran across this gem again on the home page with the tiled images. I had never noticed the ex-boxcar office just to the right of the pilot of No. 183. Looks like a good prototype example of recycling old rolling stock with a unique "bay" on it. Maybe this will help establish or confirm the location? Best Regards,
Looks to me like there are two E7As (EA7) in the picture. Probably one of the Meteor sets - SLSF 2001/2002/2004/2005. Never noticed that before. Ken
It is very definitely Monett, MO. Those strings of lights hanging above the platform are what gave it away for me. That location looks somewhat different today, as the area has been "sanitized" by BN. GS
That 183 was sure a beauty and clean. Looked good even at its age. Holds out some hope for those of us up in years. Great picture. Thanks for resurrecting it. Terry
One thought as to the occasion of the photograph. The E7As (EA7s) arrived before the train sets, and one can imagine that the Frisco is teasing the public with a tour. On display is the smallest and oldest steam locomotive, at the time, the newest and largest steam locomotive. And sadly the replacement for both of them, i.e., the most modern passenger locomotives on the property. Indeed, thanks Don, and Chris for letting this gem "rise to the surface" again.
