Broadway Limited has announced a new HO Frisco car: the 53'6" wood express reefer in a single car and duo pak with a June 12th reservation date and Aug. 2013 delivery date. It is good to see new Frisco equiptment offered. Terry Jankowski
Nothing on their web site, or please let us know where you got the information from with a link. Thanks.
I got an e-mail from Toy Train Heaven that made the same announcement. None of these are listed on the Web page either as they are pre-order. I did cut out a number of other available RRs:Pre orders due 6/12/13 Delivery August 2013 GACX 53' 6" Wood Express Reefer Single Car MSRP$34.99 TTH $27.99 187-1833 MP #3112 187-1843 Frisco #5012 187-1844 T&P #1706 187-1849 Undecorated GACX 53' 6" Wood Express Reefer 2 Car Set MSRP $59.99 TTH $47.99 187-1859 MP 2pk 187-1869 Frisco 2pk 187-1875 Undecorated 2pk
Wholesale Trains has a picture of the Frisco car on the single car page of their site. Terry Jankowski
Also 5009. I also have two Roundhouse express reefers painted and lettered by Bev-Bel numbered 479 and 483, but I can't confirm that these numbers are correct. Anyone know? Terry Jankowski
I already have a express refigerator car from BLI though mine doesn't have the large red REA herald on the right side. It's labeled GACX 53'6" Wood Express Refrigerator Car, StlSF #5010, Pullman Green, HO. The Wathers car was based on the same prototype but the Pullman Green color was much lighter. Perhaps Manny is thinking of the two Athean runs in which they painted their standard 40' steel box car in Pullman Green with Frisco lettering. The first was a Blue Box limited edition where 3 cars were sold in one box. Later on they took the same body, added Allied Cushion Trucks to it and offered it in their "Ready to Roll" line. Branchline also made a 40' AAR steel box in express car livery. There were 4 numbers offered. I think the Roundhouse/Bev-Bev models are of an older prototype. Rich
There are two sets of the Walthers dual paks (5063 and 5139) available on eBay now. Thanks, Rich, for the info on the Roundhouse/Bev-Bel cars. The cars look ok, but I wasn't sure of the numbers since I do know that the numbers of the 40' box cars in Pullman green were very close to them. Terry Jankowski
Here's a link to a drawing of the express refrigerator car represented by the Roundhouse/Bev-Bel model: http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2499&d=1140804655 Rich
Thanks, Rich. The 483 is a good number, but 479 does not show up. That is an easy fix. Terry Jankowski
479 is a good number for a Frisco express reefer. I have a 1959 roster and 479, 492 and 493 were (the only three) on the rolls then. In the past, I think someone might (??) even have posted a photo of 479 on Frisco-Dot-Org. Ken McElreath did post a photo of his HO model of 479. Tom G.
According to this passenger car roster: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....-equipment-roster-1876-1967-from-museum.4873/ SL-SF 475-499 appear to be a single order of express refrigerator cars built by American Car & Foundry in 1911. Rich
I had worked up a 1959 HW passenger car roster from various sources (That's my modeling era) and 479, 492 and 493 were the only ones left on the roster by them. A good start to work up a roster for your own particular era is to start with the list in a Frisco employee timetable for your chosen year. Tom G.
Thanks, Rich, for the referece to Richard's passenger roster. That helps me decide what to do, or in this case, what not to do. I appreciate the heads up. After searching the roster, however, I cannot find the Walther's numbers listed earlier: 5009, 5063, 5129, or the recently announced Broadway Limited numbers: also 5000 series cars. I had the idea that they might not have been lettered for the Frisco, but after checking my cars, I confirmed that the models were lettered for the Frisco. I can't believe that both Walthers and Broadwy Limited missed the numbers, but it is a mystery to me where they got these numbers. Terry Jankowski
I've found a reference to the 5000 series cars in the index on page 6 of this diagram book: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....car-diagrams-from-the-motive-department.4875/ Car numbers 5001-5129 are listed as "Exp. Refrig." and are lined out. The referenced page is missing. Rich
Thanks, Rich. I checked the book to see if there might be a date, but could find none. At least we know that at sometime, those numbers were used on express reefers. Terry Jankowski
