Back home after two and a half weeks runing all around Florida - Boca Raton, Ft Lauderdale, Key West, Naples, Marco Island, Sanibel/Captiva, Clearwater. Caroline and I visited several places we spent time at during our earlier days, plus we are looking at getting, or renting, a condo to escape the prision of StL winters. We are on to a few good ones!

One thing to note about the trip - 3500 miles StL to Florida, all over Florida, and then back to StL ..... I didn't see a single train! Bummer. That never happened during my trips to Florida with my family during my high school and college days - I always brought along an Official RR Guide, and we always saw several trains.

    Again - bummer!

Well, Ken.....no trains? IF you'd seen one in Key West I'd have to think the ghost of Henry Flagler was running around down there again. Remember, I'm your Florida guide!!

Nope - no ghosts of Sir Flagler in sight on the Key West run! I was happy to see, however, that the old Bahia Honda FEC bridge was still standing there, sort of, no longer used. I remember the thrill of riding over it on my first trip to Key West - 1958 or 1960, I can't remember which. I liked going over the hump in the middle where the long truss is.

Saw lots of tracks all over the state - but no trains on them.

Ken, I live in Titusville, just 20 miles north of Cocoa. Lots of good house deals after the layoffs at NASA. We also have great clubs at Titusville and Cocoa. If you come down in January do not miss Prototype Rails. One of the best anywhere.
    Good luck

Ken, I worked for FEC and CSX in Florida and most all trains are run at night. FEC is only about 360 miles long, the cutoff times are around 5 PM. CSX doesn't have a lot of business in Miami, Tri-Rail now runs every 6 Minutes, so most merchandise runs at night. Surprising you didn't see a local though, there is several on both railroads. It works good for doing track work, FEC does not run anything on Sunday as a normal business plan.
