Hello all, We just returned from vacation out west, and wanted to share a great find. On our way home, we stopped in Ellis, Kansas to visit a R.R. museum. It was a Union Pacific museum, but trains are trains, right? While enjoying their large collection of goodies, I noticed an old magazine called " Railroad Magazine" dated January, 1953. It has a 20 page article written by William Draper about the Frisco! Many great photos are with the story. The magazine is in fair shape, but has some water damage. I plan on archiving it, probably taking it apart in the process. The staples are rusted apart, so going in acid free sheet protectors sounds like the best way to go. Many of the photos are credited, so I don't think any copywrite issues will be a problem, at least, I hope not. I just want to share this great mag with all of us Frisco folk! Be watching as I get this thing done- the mag is great. And , btw, it was only 30 cents!!! Dan
Hi gang, Here they are, hopefully they transfer O.K. I am off to Memphis for another Scottish festival, see ya'll on Monday Dan
Dan, thanks for the scan/post. I have that magazine in the basement somewhere. This is much easier than trying to find it. Off with Wulfert in a few minutes (I'm in a Chesterfield, MO motel) to Pacific to visit Don Wirth and his evolving HO version of Newburg. Hopefully the two guys can help with some layout planning ideas. Doug
Thanks for the post Dan. I have a couple issues of 1940s Trains with nice Frisco articles, but wonder if I could post them here without running afoul of some laws. Just had an extremely enjoyable visit with Doug and Ken talking Frisco and such. Hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. It was good to see them.
Just give credit to the source. As long as your personally not trying commercialize it, should be no problem.
The photo on "Page 25" of the West Shops erecting house is something to behold. It looks like fireboxes as far as the eye can see. Thanks for sharing! Don, I worry that your camera has gotten covered by benchwork and scenery. I, for one, look forward to an update soon! Best Regards,
Don - I really enjoyed the visit today. It was good to get with you and Doug and have a "mini-FMIG meeting" again! Keep up your great work on the layout. Newburg lives! I really like the CTC building and your work on the roundhouse and the two depots. Looking out the east end along that bluff really has the feel of the place. Can't wait to see the bar over the Branch! Ken
