I know we are all still excited about the Frisco meet in Pittsburg (thanks again John C.) but I would like to start collecting all the 2010 volunteer information. Namely your names. I have probably forgotten some so please let me know if you want to be part of the planning and execution of the 2010 meet. The question marks below is my way of asking if you would mind leading the funtion by your name. We can move things around, this is just my initial swipe at it. Please advise of other functions that we might need as well.

    Richard Napper - Registrar
Bob Hoover - Communications to the Frisco Nation ?
    Patrick Furlong - Smokey Hill
Dora Furlong - Smokey Hill, Non Rail activities for the spouses?
Jo McClellan - Non Rail activities for the spouses
    Jimmie Williams (and Mrs. Williams?)
    Bob Wintle - Clinics ?
Mike Peters - Door Prizes, Giveaways?
    Keith Robinson
    Mark Davidson - Layout Operations?

These were the folks and functions I could think of quick. If you would like to help, there will be plenty to do so please let me know if you are available.

We will start planning in October so climb aboard for the Kansas City Special in 2010.

    Ship IT on the Frisco!

    Rick:
I volunteered to do registration but would be more than glad to do clinics. I have all the registration information including several email addresses that I can pass along to the new registrar.

    Hello Rick -

I'll be glad to help in any way that I can. I'm always up for simply doing "the tasks". Whatever you need - I'll do my best to produce.

Rick - I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Though I'm in St Louis, I visit family in Olathe every six weeks or so.

I have a couple of ideas for possible clinics, for example.

    Ken:
I just had a talk with Rick on the phone and I guess instead of doing registration I will be in charge of clinics this next year. I am not at all comfortable with this task as I don't really have any ideas for clinics. I guess I don't really have to worry about that as long as everybody else throws me their ideas. I am open to any and all ideas. Rick mentioned he would like for me to do one on adding lights to Diesel locomotives to "Friscoize" our models. I can take care of that one easy enough. I will be looking for other ideas as well as clinicians. So who will step to the plate and hit one out of the park? Looking forward to your ideas and anyone who would like to do one.

    Bob,

You can be a big help with any facility we might use in Lenexa. Would you check into the community center on Pflumm and any other place that would let us use the facility all day Friday and Saturday. I am estimating 100 people, meeting the second or third weekend in May 2010.

Also would you send me your phone number via my email at kansas96@yahoo.com ??

    Thanks.

    Rick

The Communications to the Frisco Nation job is fine with me as it is something that I can comfortably do here at home . We can discuss this further when we all meet, but I do think it important that all communication be filtered through one person, no matter who that might be, so that mistakes and miscommunication are held to a minimum. That person would of course need to be conscious and responsible to double check all information with the person supplying it to make sure it is accurate before passing it on. This to me would include designing registration information, postings, newsletters, follow-up information, etc. Maybe a gatekeeper and promotional person of sorts.

    Just my thoughts,

    Rick:

Just read your post about the second or third weekend in May. I personally would love this time period, but have some concern about people with children as they seem to tend to shut down other activities as the end of school nears just as they do in early September when it gears back up. Maybe some people with school age children can chime in here as I may be all wet as I sometimes can get.

    All:

My concern on a May date is similar to Bob's. The second to fourth weekends in May are graduation season. That could keep people away, but it might also make it hard to find a place to hold the 2010 event. I'd go with June, since that's summer travel time, and I don't think there are any train shows in the area around then.

June is not a good month. That is the month that the MCoR has it's convention and do not forget the weddings. The last weekend of May is Memorial Day weekend and would compete with that and Katy Days here in Parsons. I suggest early May as the time.

I like the idea of early may. Lots of rain then = better possibility of me going. If I do go I would like to see a demonstration on how to add the roof beacons and gyro lights, and how to hook them up to the decoder, and how to program.

I agree with Robert Collins and Bob Hoover, May is a very full month. For the last several years we have had either train rides, motorcar rides, town festivals or some other event each weekend. June or July would be much better.

I thought I might bring this topic up again. Has there been an official date set, and place in KC?

Good question Ethan. Unfortunately, there is no date set because there is no venue at this time. I have checked quite a few possibilities in the Lenexa, Shawnee area but they all want a minimum $400 per day (12 hour day) plus janitorial supplies (min $100). I would like to find a place that would be a little more reasonable so the surplus can go to the ALL ABOARD website. I still have a few places to check. At the rates previously mentioned there wouldn't be much to pass on to the website.

At this time, I don't see us meeting until at least August and more likely September or October. The meeting place is absolutely critical and will determine the date of the event.

If there is anyone in the KC are who knows of a reasonably priced (or free) place that will allow us to meet for 14-16 hours (7 am to midnight - slide shows), please let me know. Any help is appreciated.

September or October? That won't work for me being the time of the year.

I just started a new job and I am now offically the low man on the totem pole. I will not be able to have a paid vacation for a year. I am working 10 to 13 hour days and am quite tired when I get home. For these reasons I am offically backing out of my commitment to help with this event should it happen this year. My new career must take precedence in my life at this time.
