Found this image while going through my ancient Photobucket pics. In order to use Atlas code 83 flex track to represent 1900 branch line track I removed quite a few of the plastic ties with a razor knife and spread them out. I made some of them a bit crooked and painted them various wood colors with some weathering added and painted the rails a rust color. Just thought I would share this.
You can sure see the difference Jim. I hope you managed to keep most of your images, and photobucket cant hi-jack you. There were some amazing images you took. not to mention the videos.
Jim, that's quite a difference between your branch line and stock track. Looks great!!! I bet it is a tedious job, but well worth it. We're looking forward to seeing your layout progress. How big is your new addition? Joe
Why thank you, William. That means a lot coming from you. I’ve always thought that track should be a detailed model just like any other model railroad structure.
Nice, Jim... More on ties... http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/tie-spacing-circa-1900.4818/
Is their some kind of sneaky "Jim James" way you do the rail. I know it's a secret, but help a poor Trackman, Roadmaster out. I got a bunch to do. Anybody think that rascal, will share his trademark of quality work.
Rust colored paint, fine brush and lots of patience. Lots of patience. (The “trick” is a shot or two of Kessler’s.)
