Does anyone know where the Frisco purchased their Diesel Fuel and Company Sand from? Thanks for any help. Bob
I should remember this, as much time as I spent on the fuel track. Am thinking some came from Phillip 66 in Oklahoma. They did buy some local from trucks, when the tanks were low, but the most came in their own cars. The sand, I don't know, it came in hopper cars, trying to think where it was spotted, but been too long. Roy Whitehead did some duty at the Fuel Tanks, funny, I was their one time, he was taking delivery of a tank truck. I said "Wow thats a big truck load" Roy laughed and said "it don't even move the needle"
When I visited the BN Cherokee Yard in September 2011 I was informed the yard had a pipe line direct to one of the Tulsa area refineries .
During the 70's, the daily train into Wichita had 8-12 company tank cars (black with yellow dome) in it and they were delivered to the Derby Oil company on the MOP for loading.
I figured Tulsa got theirs from the Sun Refinery. I'm using this information to route my cars. I've been routing to Tulsa but will add Phillips in Bartlesville and to my Beloved Derby in Wichita. I'm still looking for the info on sand. Thanks everyone for the replies.
I recall hearing that the Frisco received some diesel fuel from Sunray-DX in Tulsa. Is that the "Sun" that Bob refers to? Did they have a refinery in Tulsa? Ken
Yes, Ken, that is correct. That refinery is now a Holly refinery. Holly bought both the Sun (northern most refinery across 17th st.) and the Sinclair refinery (across Southwest Blvd.) The Sun refinery was also known as Mid-Continent, DX, DX-Sunray, Sun, and now Holly. It is also correct that there is a pipeline between this refinery and the diesel storage tank at the diesel shop in Cherokee Yard. Sand was delivered in covered hoppers which we would spot at the sand spot. We also spotted lube oil on this same spur at the diesel shop. Terry
