What else do you model?

Well, I'm still mainly frisco, but I'm gonna be adding more roads via interchange. In fact yester day I picked up a mop GP35 dummy, plus a caboose for the mop, MKT and the Santa Fe.

As most of you know I very losely model the Avard Sub so the Santa Fe is the "other" railroad I model. I don't look at as the "other" more as "along with". The Santa Fe is a road I never really knew until late in their life. As a matter of fact I didn't know they came to Tulsa on their own until a few years ago! So there will always be a special place on my layouts for the blue and yellow.

I wouldn't mind me some Rock Island "Bankrupt Blue" U30C's or SD40-2's

I almost did a Union Pacific or Missouri Pacific connection based on the coal train that Frisco jointly operated into Illinois, which is described in the book "Frisco in Color". My four year old son Austin loves UP. I was eyeing a brand-new never been opened Athearn blue box UP "snoot" SD40-2 at the little hobby/antique store in Rosebud with him one day, and asked him what he thought about it. His response: "Let's just stick with Frisco, Dad".

On the other hand, since he loves Amtrak, we do run a four car Amtrak train with a GE P42DC at the head. I'm not a huge Amtrak fan, and it clashes with my 1970's main-line freight operations big time. However, I try to add things that he likes my layout. Hopefully things like this will keep his interest in the hobby instead of wandering off into X-Box oblivion someday.

Lol, at least you have other hobbies. I give you, Murphy, and Teenrailroader a lot of credit for your contributions to this site and keeping the Frisco alive. You guys are the future of this hobby.

BTW, for me it was Nintendo. Not the fancy one they have out now, nope just the plain old original Nintendo. Spent hours in front of it playing Contra, Pro Wrestling, and of course, Super Mario Bros. I remember pouting when my Dad beat me at Jaws. Then I discovered girls and cars. After several years and several tickets, I returned to trains:)

Actually I have a working N64. it would be cool to find super smash bros, but last time I went to a used game store they didn't have it.

  7. I still have my dad's original Nintendo. I have Duck Hunt, Super Smash Bros. and Kirby. I also have The Legend of Zelda somewhere in my room. This is my first game system I got to play. I later got a PS2 and last year I got a Wii. But I usually prefer working on my models to playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But if I need a break from the modeling bench I do go into the other room and play games for about 20 minutes.
I'm gonna add A few more connections to my list. 1. Rock Island 2. Another Mopac line 3. cotton belt 4. Another KCS line 5. Fort Smith, Subiaco, and Rock Island line. I'm also gonna alter history and add a narrow gagur connection south of Fort Smith. I haven't come up with the name of this road, but my layout will have a bit of dual gauge trackage.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

Coming back to topic, I additionally model the Missouri Pacific spur into Cape Girardeau and the interaction between the two roads.

Currently on my N scale layout, I model MoPac in the form of an interchange track, and also have a couple of MP diesels to run now & then.

On my N scale layout I model the Mopac connection at Harrisonville, MO and Mopac crossing at Dodson. I also will model the MKT connection at Clinton, MO with a live interchange.

Long range plans are to include some interchange traffic at KC from a staging yard to 19th St. Yard. This will include some other roads, each with only one engine and a transfer caboose. Interchange will more than likely rotate through different roads and include CGW, GM&O, CB&Q, Milwaukee Road, Santa Fe and Rock Island.

If I wasn't so hooked on Frisco's Clinton Sub I would model the Rock Island's St. Louis line. I grew up with the Rock's St. Louis line literally in my backyard and saw a bunch of interesting stuff in the mid-late 70's.

I like (Most any) passenger trains. While I'm working on a Texas Special and Meteor (My faves), I'm also gathering equipment for A Katy Flyer and/or Bluebonnet, Rock Island Twin Star and Choctaw Rockets, KCS Southern Belle and "Flying Crow," Santa Fe Tulsan and Oil Flyer, MoPac "Little Eagles," Wabash Blue Bird, Banner Blue, City Of St. Louis, City Of Kansas City and the PRR "Penn Texas" (PRR train into St. Louis carrying sleepers for the Southwest). Trouble is, I can't figure a layout where they could all believebly run on!!?? I also like the SP "City Of Everywhere" circa 1968, with about twenty cars of every imaginable SP or UP paint scheme pulled by about five PA's in the SP "Bloody Nose" paint scheme complete with rooftop icicle whackers. But that would REALLY look doofy backing into the same station as the SLSF Meteor...:):)

If I HAD to, I would include the Missouri Pacific in my 1943 era. I like their steam power.

Actually, I think blue line had announced a run of Mop light 2-8-2's. But I have heard of some issues with Blue line engines.

DHOWE, That Carrollton spot is interesting, although I'm sure you will attest it's changed a lot--Do you know what the destiny of the old depot is? Is it off-site by now? A little bit north of you, in Lake Dallas/Denton, work continues on the old Katy line for the new commuter rail coming up from Carrollton. It's going painfully slow, most days I see about 90% of the guys just standing around or sitting. They even seem to be busting up the brand-new platform they just poured at the Highland Village stop. Don't know what happened there--and I hope they will be adjusting the ballast at certain points where the roadbed was not built up to the road crossings, forcing the new rails to have to bend up sharply to get over the roads!

I model about a 4 mile area of KC that features local industries and interchange activity between the Frisco, the M-K-T, the ATSF, the KCS and the MoP in HO. Currently in the process of "refreshing" some of the layout and installing some new industries including the Garvey Elevator and the Cereal Processing company served by the Frisco.

Big challenge right now is devising a fascia panel scratch 'n' sniff pad near the Rosedale BBQ. We have lights, sound and motion on our railroads, why not appeal to our sense of smell. I get this way every night around 6 pm. Hmmm.

Jim, whenever you are going to be in the KC area, be sure to let me know - I'll join you at one of the oldest Frisco Folk hangouts for food - ROSEDALE BBQ!

    Jim,

Good to see you here. Call us next you are in town.

Recommend you drop the scratch and sniff. Go for the real thing - most all BBQ places here will express mail a "get it at home" package! That way you not only get the great real smell, after operating, you get to eat too!

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Seeing as I model a "region" (KC's West Bottoms) more than a particular railroad, I get to select from among the railroads of Kansas City circa mid-60's. Of course, my ol' favorite, the Frisco, is already in evidence, and will be more so in the future. But I also have CB&Q on the layout, as well as more rr's on the workbench. EVENTUALLY (I hope), there will be some KCT as well.

So many dreams... so little time and energy.

    Andre -
I share your same conundrum. I have enough trouble making a reasonable SL-SF roster, not to mention my son's ATSF habit.

However, if I'm understanding late 40s/early 50s work rules correctly, I'll need to assemble some KC-area foreign road power for transfers (e.g. WAB, CB&Q, etc.).

Meanwhile, I figure that I may just visibly "stage" the transfers at the beginning of a session and just have the SL-SF and ATSF sort the cars accordingly. Probably not the most prototypical but it'll do.

    Best Regards,

Chris, I see no problem with staging transfers in the yard for the beginning of a session; the scenario is set by the layout owner. The scenario that you are setting is that the foreign road has just dropped its transfer and has already left before the beginning of the current shift.

That should help reduce the necessity of additional power and cabooses and also dedicated staging tracks for each transferring road, hence reduced start-up costs to begin operations.
