What else do you model?

I'm a Santa Fe fan..also. I love some of their power. F45's, C30-7's, The SuperFleet stuff and so on. Does anyone model or fan a railroad other than Frisco? I can't say I like any of today's mega roads except KCS's

Well, before my grandpa bumped me into frisco, I collected Santa Fe steamers and BNSF modern day. Oh I almost forgot I have a HHP-8. But now I'm frisco all the way.

Katy! When I first started to model it was the Katy. I didn't even know about the Frisco until I went to a Model RR show in Springfield Mo. in or around 1979. I had know idea of the two railroads' connections. Now I have two favorite roads. The Frisco may have a slight edge though due to this website.

In addition to Frisco, which certainly is #1, I model the Rock Island, the PRR and the GM&O.

At this point, I'd probably agree with you. The Frisco probably has gained a leg up on the Katy on my list, due to this site. There is a lot more activity and information here than on the Yahoo! Frisco site.

And, the Frisco ran thru TWO of the three places I've lived in my life. :D

  7. My interests are a bit more geographically scattered. When I lived in Michigan's upper peninsula for a couple of years, I developed some interest in the logging and mining roads of that area. (DSS&A, LS&I, etc.) Unfortunately most of them, like the Frisco, are now historic rather than contemporary interests.

I like Bob, Didnt know anything about the FRISCO's existence until I started going to the Train club in Cherryvale and that estate showed up with alot of FRISCO stuff in it. And since I am strictly steam (for now) I am partial to the FRISCO, MKT, KCS, Santa Fe, Missouri Pacific, all of which ran in the Goegraphical area where I grew up. I would like to add though that I wouldn't turn my nose up at a B&O, PRR, C&O, L&N, Ma&Pa or RF&P, all of which were pretty much extict by time I ran the lines on the CSX. |-|:)|-|:)|-|

Rock Island. I grew up in Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks region, squarely between Frisco's Springfield/St. Louis line and the Rock's KC/St. Louis line...and spent a lot of time as a kid watching trains on both. I've also spent a fair amount of time exploring that now-abandoned Rock Island trackage, as well as the remnants of the old Frisco High Line.

(Which reminds me: I really need to get around to building that AMB Rock Island laser-kit caboose I bought a couple of years ago. And finding a locomotive to go with it...)

Aside from the Frisco, in my HO collection I have UP, Santa Fe, SCL, KCS, and MP. Shortlines include Kiamichi, Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern, and Texas North Western (back when they were running with Geeps).

Now that I'm in Muskogee, the idea of adding the "Muskogee Lines" to my collection is intriguing.....add to that I've lived close to both the north & south ends of the old KO&G at one time or another in my life.

Like the Katy, but as yet haven't taken the plunge to get any.

In addition to the Frisco, I model BN in the 1989-1992 time frame. My concentration is on Frisco lines in and around Springfield, so the BN stuff fits in pretty well.

I have one SP SD45 and before I strip and paint it I would like to know where would the Frisco have connected with SP? I like to think I'm modeling 1974-1979 and run through power was rare but was on the increase so I like to keep at least one of all the railroads Frisco connected with on hand especially those in the southwestern part of the system

Denison, Texas is one place that comes to mind.

As a sidebar, during the time period you mention, while I was living in Atmore it was a Sunday ritual for a fast-moving northbound freight to come through at lunchtime on the L&N, headed up by SP power.

I never figured that one out.

Cotton Belt at Memphis and St. Louis, Also, Sherman, Denison, Dallas & Ft. Worth for other SP interchange. In Paris, the former Texas Midland came up from Commerce and interchanged with Frisco's Hugo-Paris line until about 1975- that, and Sherman, would have been Cotton Belt.

I'm sure there are some I've missed, but these are the ones that come to mind quickly.

  15. You can shoot me later but i'll throw in the Missouri Pacific. It was a great railroad and plus it had tons of connections.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

In addition to the Frisco (numero uno), I actively model (in priority order)

    2. MKT (both eras 1947-50 and 1975-78)
    3. MP (both eras)
    4. UP (1975-78 pool service)
    5. SCL (1975-78 pool service)

These are the main roads. It's hard to say I model the interchange roads since I typically only have one engine and a caboose.

Funny, because from a modeling standpoint, the Deramus scheme(s) are my favorites......which does not sit well with Katy folks.....

I guess I will keep it around for a while. It doesn't look that bad sandwiched between a couple of SD45's

I enjoyed reading everyone's posts -- especially when you took time to explain why you chose the lines that you are modeling.

My focus is the 3-track intersection in Carrollton, Texas, during the first year following the Frisco / BN merger. The Frisco, Katy, and Cotton Belt lines all served the small suburb of Dallas. I have a limited representation of the Katy and the Cotton Belt lines -- the emphasis is on Frisco and Burlington Northern.

The target dates for operations are:
Nov. 21, 1980 -- locomotives are all Frisco
    Dec. 21, 1980 -- locomotives are mixed:
    Frisco paint w/ original numbers
    Frisco paint w/ BN #s
Frisco GP50 with original paint and # both BN
    Nov. 21, 1981 -- locomotives are mixed
    Frisco paint w/ BN #s
Frisco GP50 with original paint and # both BN
Frisco repainted and renumbered to BN

I chose those lines, that time, and that location because:
the relationship between SLSF, MKT, and SSW
the history of the SLSF/BN merger
I live near the 3-track intersection

    Howdy,

My first passion is modeling the Frisco, but I did fall from grace a bit and built a Katy Mogul, boxcar, and caboose. The later two from wood. They were for the interchange in Frederick, OK on my old layout.

My second fascination is with the D&RGW Narrow gauge in New Mexico and Colorado. I am doing more structure construction for those areas with a 12 building town and Pro Patria mill in the works now. I have a brass loco for each of the K classes, and am super detailing them, remoter, and re-gearing, adding sound, and all wheel pickup. All but one are finished, but I need to weather them before they hit the layout.

My next Frisco scratch building projects will be a standard #1 station and the station in Frederick, OK. Since I don't have a layout anymore, these will be dioramas. I may scratch build one more structure for the Frisco, but haven't figured out what it will be. The main thing is to live long enough to realize all my plans, lol.

I keep trying to find Frisco space on the Texas Western, but real estate is hard to find. The Frisco freight station in Fort Worth would be a fun project to scratch build and may be on the list, but on our layout, it would have to be placed across from the T&P freight station. That would put it square in the middle of the isle :-(.

Good thread, thanks for starting it.

    Happy rails,
    mike
