Gentlemen, Here is a great overview photo of the Frisco bridge over the Arkansas River between Van Buren and Ft. Smith, AR. http://www.westernrailimages.com/Mopac/Mopac-1980s/9467131_wjPWf#635213716_ZEjnb The photo is looking southeast (down river). Van Buren to the north is to the left and Ft. Smith to the south is to the right. This bridge is located on the Fort Smith Subdivision of the Central Division. The MoP is on the north bank of the river and crosses the Frisco at grade at an interlocking just north of the bridge. Today the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad operates over this bridge. On the left is the "old channel" with the center pivot swing span. Note the pivot pier in the center of the left span. To its right is the "new channel" which has a vertical lift span (in gray). The bridge was modified as part of the McClellan - Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System when it was expanded upstream to the Tulsa Port of Catoosa. The river navigation system construction started in 1963 and the first barges reached Catoosa, OK in 1971. Although included in the Missouri Pacific Railroad gallery section of the Western Rail Images web site, this is a Frisco structure. Mark, photo 247 on that page, besides two questionable yellow "things" shows Miss Laura's, the former brothel which was renovated by local historical society in the 70's. My mom told me she helped strip wallpaper in the bathroom and other such uplifting chores. Miss Laura's was north of the MP freight house and Frisco depot.

It is sad that such a fine man as Mr. Ozment has left us. I went to the webpage for the western rail images and started looking at his album of FRISCO equipment. The funny part was when I got to Picture 106 of Jim Christen on the Bridge I am wondering, what is he doing? It appears as if he is giving a one finger Salute.
