    Charlie,

I debated with myself considerably before responding to this thread, but I would like to throw out a recommendation for you to consider. I have not contributed to your Slide Buyers Club, and most of the people on the forum will not either. If we all did, I'm sure the individual cost would be a dollar apiece or so. However, I and many others (I think of Mike Condren's amazing work of love on all our behalfs) have contributed slides, photos, etc, most with no copyright restrictions at all, but simply to promote the society at large. For example, I scanned and posted many photos that my great-uncle shot ca. 1900 around Cape Girardeau, and I reserve no copyright restrictions on them.

Where I am going with this is to speak to your statement, "to be made available to anyone that donates." What this statement does is to create an elite group of "donators" who have exclusive access to content. I don't believe this has ever been anybody's intent on this forum; the affable openness is exactly what has drawn people to it. Moreover, I'm sure that even your "contribution" or "donation" as a labor of love will exceed many times the monetary donation that you or others make.

I do understand that there are folks who intend to pursue commercial enterprises with their copyrighted materials, and that is great. I will buy their books or videos as I wish. But I recommend that this forum be focused as a "public library" for Frisco Folks and nothing more. Think of yourself as Andrew Carnegie, building many libraries with no recompense except an occasional "thank you" and the sense of contibuting to the cause.

Please don't think I am trying to be adversarial, but this just seemed to be the right thing to do.

    Ken,

    No worries, LOL!

You just haven't read all of the thread (which is understandable because these threads all get long). ALL of the pictures are going to be uploaded to Frisco.org so everyone will have access. What will be available to donators is a .zip file for easy downloading of all content at once.

Everyone else will still be able to download all of the content here from Frisco.org. The bulk .zip download will just be a perk.

Re: ATTENTION: Frisco Slides on eBay

Ken, refer back to one of Charlie's first few posts:
    http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?6947-UPDATED-Frisco-Slides-on-eBay&p=53746#post53746

and one of his later ones:

the intent all along has been to upload the images to this site for everyone's access. The donors will receive media with the images stored therein for their own personal use, thus spreading digital copies beyond this site.

YesteRRails LLC has just thrown $20.00 into the Kitty and will do more in a few days. I'm grateful that this slide collection is won. I will cruise it for potential decal projects. Thanks again to all who participated!

Thanks Manny. That brings us to...

    $200

... and completes this portion of the project. :)

Thanks again to everyone and I would also like to say that raising funds this way is a great thing that can be used again if necessary. I hope everyone will keep their eye out for things that can enhance the site and if so, we will give it a try again. The slides have been shipped to me and I will let you know when they arrive.

    BIG NEWS

The slides arrived today (apparently). A large box was delivered from Canada. To be honest, I have not opened the box because I just got off work and I have to get ready to leave for Boston and Rhode Island first thing in the morning.

When I get back in about 48 hours, I will box the slides up and ship them to Missouri where Bob Dye will begin the process of scanning them. Every time he scans a picture and sends it to me, I will upload a picture so you should start to see results from this project in a couple of weeks or so.

When I open the box I will try to snap a couple of pictures of the slides just so you can see what we got.

Thanks again everyone and cheers to everyone who has participated in this project (if you happen to be drinking beer from the other thread).

Curiosity got the best of me and I opened the box. I'm pretty excited.

Bob, stand by, they will be coming your way!

    Here's an update folks:

I have the slides all boxed up and ready to go to Bob in Missouri. I have not been able to send them out because I am working 8 to 4 and the post office is open from, you guessed it, 8 to 4. I will get them out by the first of the week though and Bob is standing by. So, within one week, give or take a few days, you might start to see this tree bear fruit.

We're going to owe Bob a BIG thank you for the time he is going to put into this. Every time he gets me a few scanned images I will upload them so coming here every day will get really fun pretty quick (not that it's not fund now). :)

But, here's the other news: There is another auction out there for over 130 Frisco rolling stock slides. This would be another great addition to our site. I am a bidder on this and there are two days left on the auction.

If you want to participate at the $10 (or more) level to try and acquire this collection, please send me a private message to indicate such. Do not send money right now.

Again, doing good on this one but the bid is already high and I am not the leader. If you are interested in this one, please send me a PM. 10 more guys at $10 would help. :)

I already PM'd Charlie, but just to let the rest of Frisco Nation know, the box was hand delivered today. I say hand delivered 'cause it wouldn't fit in the roadside mail box and the route carrier drives down to deliver it personally. We got 11, 100 slot carousels! Granted, not all of them are full, but most are fairly full.

Yes, some are from various slide duplicators, such as Blackhawk, Evda Slides, etc., most appear to be personally shot. At least there is not attribution given. Some boxes appear to be in some sort of order, like Freight Cars, Monett to Ft Smith, etc., some are not labeled.

So here's my plan, I'll start scanning the non-copyrighted carousels first. Why? Some already might have the duplicates, but the others - probably not. Most, if not all slides have notes written on them and it is our intent to preserve that info.
