Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I've been to the site, but I thought I'd drop by and show some stuff off. This past weekend, my Dad and I brought out my late Grandfather's 1.6" scale Frisco Mikado and ran it for the day. As always, she ran amazingly well, I'm sure Grandpa had a big smile on his face. Hope you guys enjoy.

Excellent! I bet it's hard work keeping that right of way in shape. What fuel is used to generate the steam?

It was originally built as an oil burner, diesel #2, but it now runs on propane. There are 3, 5 gallon propane tanks in the stock car directly behind the engine.

Yep, it does live in 1.6". Hopefully I'll get out that way one day and double head...:D

I saw your grandfather's engine at a Train Mountain Tri-ennial years back and have been impressed ever since.

Seriously, going to a "large scale" meet is something that every model railroader should experience at least once. The sights, sounds and smells of the steam locomotives are typically the same as our bigger cousins. You get an addiction for the smell of soft coal smoke and hot cylinder oil.

That is such a beautiful piece of work! Not only does it look like the 4158 but it has that good Frisco bark and melodious whistle.
I sent your Grandfather the whistle dimensions from the 1522 when he was building it. I'd love to see it in person and hear it tie into a nice long train. The rest of the rolling stock is dead on too.
    Excellent job.

That's really a work of art.
noticed that you hail from Long Beach? That is a pretty good drive to the Bitter Creek; do you trailer the locomotive or is it domiciled there?

We should make contact somewhere down the line. I spend a lot of time at my friends setup a couple miles from me.
You are welcome to check out some things that I have posted, I think under Large Scale, or Other Scale.

Sherrel, the engine and train are stored up at bitter creek. When I get the chance, dad and I meet up and we stretch her legs. I actually just brought the inch scale pacific back down after a year of Dad having it in the Bay Area, I wasn't going to run it as I was going through fire academy and wouldn't have any time to take care of it. But now that that's over, I'll be taking the pacific to LALS a time or two this summer, they have their run days on Sundays, I'll let you know when I head that way. Glad you guys enjoyed the video, hope it puts as big a smile on your face as it does mine when running the engine. More coming in the future, that's for sure.
