Our son Kurt is a store manager at a Best Buy in Kansas. Best Buy is very good about allowing returns within the first 30 days, as long as the item is still salable, or it is defective, and you have your receipt. After 30 days, things get a bit more dicey. Given the business they are in, with new products continually coming out replacing the old versions, they need to keep returns on a short leash. We've never had a problem with Best Buy. Ken
Guess I'm all bark. I just ordered one from them anyway..........online. I didn't really find one anywhere else and I just have to have one! I ran my Roundhouse 2-6-0 for a while tonight and it's such a smooth runner. Heck, this new 4-4-0 may become my #151.
The stories i heard had to do with the over 30 days thing. Under 30 there wouldn't be a problem at best buy or about any were. Ethan
I think this is getting out of hand. Best Buy has nothing to do with this thread and really shouldn't of been brought into the discussion. Jim felt he was wronged. We should all stay on topic, either supporting him, or reasoning with him so that an understanding is achieved. Friscrg is not a bashing forum. Lets get back on target. Jim, I'm sorry you felt wronged. Maybe if you wrote a letter to Trainworld and explained the whole story, you might get some resolution. Otherwise, let's start cheering Jim up and get him back on track to run his Zalma Branch with pride and dignity. He's got 151 to build. We need to support him. Enough with the off topic stuff. Sorry Jim, but that's my rant.
We are Best Buy shareowners, and my son runs a Best Buy store. I did not want BBY's reputation, which is excellent, to be wrongfully described in this forum, hence my post. Ken
In my opinion Best Buy rocks! We buy everything we can there! Since they're an electronics store I just wish they sold my DCC stuff!
I'm just more comfortable buying from someone I know. I can call Discount Trains in Addison, tell them what I want and they will see if it's on the shelf or if they can get it. And when I'm in DFW I can go in and have a real hobby shop experience. See new stuff, meet people, see what's on consignment that someone has repainted.
I want to apologize for leading this thread off topic. Since it was on the topic of warning about customer service I simply thought I would pass on some stories I heard. I personally have only returned something to best buy once, and it was after the 30 days (it had the extended warranty.) We were able to mail the item back to best buy and they sent us a gift card to replace it. Now let's be done with this, I have removed the initial part of the post about BBuy Ethan
The two best hobby shops in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area were Hall´s and MAL. Sadly, Bobbye has passed on but Ed Seay, Jr. is still going strong in Irving. It was so cool to visit him in the 70s as the Frisco switcher was usually working the small yard within earshot of his shop! It is a pity that so many mom & pop hobby shops have had to shut down account of the internet. You won´t get a friendly howdy or like in the case of Miss Hall, a good hot cup of coffee from the Silex that was next to the Coke, Reg.U.S.Pat.Off., machine and right across the aisle from the magazine rack! Return? No problem. Just good Old Fashioned Texas Hospitality! I miss The Good Old Days! Joe Toth
