I talked with the town manager and Lyold from the City Of Jenks. As far as they are concerned they belong to Ark Wrecking. The phone number for them is (918) 583-0488. It will cost money probably to get them. I will do a quick inspection tonight but understand there is a lot of corrosion on the cars.

  3. I have 5 acres near the ex-Mopac line in Van Buren if their willing to donate. I'll restore the old cars. Maybe even put them to use on the A&M in their old Frisco colors. Will they let anyone salvage any goodies from the station? First the shop in Springfeild,MO now this.... This is not a good week in railroad history.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

Murphy Jenkins is right "This is not a good week in Railroad history, first the Shops in Springfield, Mo., and now this".

I have a Railroad Museum that is willing to take them. Are they willing to Donate them to an Railroad Museum??

    Please let me know.

Although the cars have some corrosion, they are still FRISCO, it is a shame to see them just get cut up into scrap metal, in fact IMO it just takes more surviving equipment from a great era and places it amongst "The things we can only talk about" and the "I wish you coulda seen those" memories. Which sometimes dont leave much to the imagination, in some cases. I wish someone had a way to acquire these 2 chair cars and if nothing more refurbish them and place them somewhere safe and fill them with FRISCO memorabilia for the open public to enjoy. I hope you who read this understand what I said here. It just upsets me that FRISCO items fall into the hands of someone who holds no sentiments about things like this, and possibly has a "ITS ONLY BUSINESS" Attitude. I may be wrong and too quick to judge, but, this sorta thing has happened too many times. The BN is the most guilty of the parties this statement includes.

These cars look like a great opportunity to add railroad specific equipment to the soon to be displayed steam locomotive SLSF 4500 and caboose SLSF 1186.

These are also in the Tulsa area. The locomotive and caboose have been carefully restored by the Townwest SERTOMA Club of West Tulsa, OK. They are scheduled to become part of a museum dedicated to the area's history to be located along Old Route 66. A local move would also be much less costly. Unfortunately, it still boils down to an extensive capital expenditure of real dollars.

The relocated Missouri Pacific (MP) Railroad depot and the 2 Frisco cars can be seen on Googlemaps at 110 W. A St., Jenks, OK. Please see http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...oid=f8XalKv_YNURq39XvAh4tQ&cbp=12,180.09,,0,5.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

MARK! That is a great idea. That would be worthy of a fund raiser or 2 to get those cars moved and placed somewhere where they cn survive and still remain, and be enjoyed by all of us! I have a fund raiser in mind if anyone would care to inquire and contact me on it. Please PM me if there is an interest.

I have an idea for a fund raiser. Might be hard to put together, but if you could pull it off I bet you could get good sales on it. My thought is make something for model railroaders (ie. locomotive or rollingstock) and make it something that hasn't been offered before, or wasn't frisco correct. Maybe like replica's of the 2 chair cars in HO scale (maybe N and O as well) and find some way to make them 100% correct to the Frisco and find a way to get them free or super cheap and then of corse sell them.

  9. I'm just a volunteer on the A&M, but I'll send the head of Passenger Operations(Brenda) a message about the cars. Maybe A&M can save them, do some work and run them as Frisco cars. The Boston Mountain chapter of the NRHS has a Frisco Baggage. Now we just need 4003 to run to have a whole Frisco passenger train.

    my inspection

I did an inspection of the cars yesterday with the permission of Chris of the city government of Jenks. I think 762 is the real thing and the other car is coach #102989. First I am sure that 762 has been in a wreck of some sort. While I am not an expert on railroads, am a structural engineer on aircraft. There is damage consistent with an accident. Looks to me like she derailed sometime in the past. The damage could be repaired but she is missing all of the operational systems. An example of this is she is missing her battery boxes and one of the couplers. What is left needs to be replaced. An example is the brakes have been jammed open for some reason. Now onward to the coach, while I do not think it has been wrecked, it too has been stripped of equipment. It has severe corrosion of the body. Also someone wired the cars for 110 and did some wood working in the interiors. Oh all of the windows has been busted out on both cars.

I would love to see the cars saved by it will take a lot of effort and money to get them roadworthy. The cars would have to be shipped by truck and repaired. I have been told that Ark Wrecking owns them and the phone number is (918) 583-0488.

Isn't there yet another Frisco heavyweight in Jenks that is used as the City Hall, Town Hall, or Chamber of Commerce office? It sat on the corner of an intersection.

I talked to Chris again and it is just the two of them. Again he told me the pair of them belong to the wrecking company. They have been on site for 20 or so years. The broken windows allowed a lot of moisture to get in the cars. The roof on the coach is in severe corrosion. Then a restorer would have to deal with the hazardous waste, i.e. the lead paint and asbestos.

It is so sad seeing this cars go to the wreckers.

Here's a 1935 incarnation of that car. It was called a "Chair-Lounge" then.

I received a message from a guest. I forgot the name he used and am having trouble remembering how to access those messages. He stated he was the President of a railroad museum and was interested in the two heavyweights. He said it was near Eureka Springs, AR. For some reason he wants me to talk to Ark wreckers. Do you think this guy is for real? It would be nice to save the cars wonder if they would give up so much scrap metal. Please let me know your thoughts. I would be happy to chip in a few to save them. Does anyone know about the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway?
