My friend on TrainBoard designed a N Scale layout for me using Kato Unitrack. As I have no layout right now, and lots of Frisco N Scale stuff, I am pretty excited. Charlie
Re: New Layout Plan Howdy Charlie, Wow, this looks great...room for equipment and operations. Good luck and most importantly, have fun! We'd love to have links to photos as you progress. Best Regards, mike
Re: New Layout Plan I would love to get started... we will see after the first of the year. It's very busy at our store and that is keeping me from having any time to do anything. Charlie
Re: New Layout Plan Charlie: the trackplan looks good! Sure hope you get to build it so's you can get all that N scale rolling stock out of storage. And of course, the rest of us on Trainboard wanna see pics!
Re: New Layout Plan The attachment is a layout plan I have been working on using an Excel program. It is basically a 12 inch shelf layout placed around a spare bedroom with two removeable bridge sections. Can be cut from 1 1/2 sheets of 3/4 plywood with foam sheet stack-up. Features a freelance Central Division single main from Fayetteville to Fort Smith with a passing track, small yard, engine facility, several spurs and two track staging. If anyone would like to use Excel for your layout let me know. Will gladly help you setup page. Joe
Re: New Layout Plan That is pretty neat! I had no idea that you could do that in Excel. But of course - there is much I do not know about a computer. I finally gave up and threw my cell phone away. Computer may be the next thing to go. Then, maybe I will get some modeling done.
Re: New Layout Plan I never got my layout off the ground, due in part to the basement still being unfinished but it looks to be a year or two away now. Joe, How did you do that in Excel? Charlie
Re: New Layout Plan Hey Joe, That is a pretty interesting track plan especially since it is focused on the Central Division. I rode the AM last October with the klrwhizkid and others. Really neat scenery and very doable in any scale. While you may have already scouted the site, Keith did an album on the trip in the Albums section of the website that might be of interest. It would be pretty cool if you were able to do a Frisco era operation and an AM era operation. Keep us posted on the progress.
Re: New Layout Plan I don't know how you are doing that in Excel but I converted it to a PDF and it looks slick! Charlie
Re: New Layout Plan I aplaud you for doing that in Excel. Very nice job. I spent a year working with that program and could not have done that. Looks like the makings of a great layout but I'm partial to shelf layouts anyway
Re: New Layout Plan Nicely done! When the day comes that the missus finally comes up to Muskogee to join me, and I get a spare room such as what you have, I'll keep your plan in mind when I finally start work on a new layout.
Re: New Layout Plan Give me two or three hours. Will post an instruction sheet I started last night. Should be enough info to set-up grid, layout space and main line. Other details will follow later. Thank You for the compliments on layout plan! Joe
Re: New Layout Plan Here are the basic instructions for Excel planning. Hope it is understandable. After you get started it goes fairly quick. Joe
Re: New Layout Plan The attachment has the remaining views of my Central Division shelf layout plan. Photos on page four are from several Frisco.org members. Thank You for posting such great photos! Some are from other divisions, but are fairly common system designs. They seem to help understand general look of a major scenic area. Almost all of the design uses the drawing features in the lower left of Excel program. I am sorry if the previous instructions are hard to understand. Its easier to do than describe. Thinking of a better way to explain drawings. If anyone has questions or suggestions please contact me, will try to help anyway I can. Currently working on room prep. I have one room to finish first, for my wifes painting area, then will be able to spend more time in Frisco room. Hope to have primary plywood sections cut by the end of the month. Upper light shelf, cassette storage and backdrop, still need have sheet cut pattern to draw. Electrical still has some work to complete. Some sections views also have minor work, but the overall basic design is complete. Joe
Re: New Layout Plan Hi, I deleted the attachment on my last post to save space. Will be starting a new thread on Layout Planning and Drawing with Excel. The attachment will be down loaded in first post. New tread to start soon. Thank You for all the compliments!!! Will be glad to help anyone who would like to use Excel for drawings. Joe
