Well here we go! Keith called me this evening and got me squared away with uploading video. Now nothing is safe. Many thanks to Keith for helping me out on this. Tom H. Thanks to all, Tom H.
Re: new power for Frisco. I always thought Frisco would shun expensive options like the North American cab. Some B40-8s with regular cab would make some nice 800s as well. Awesome job on those 900s and bridge. Very inspiring for those of us with closet layouts. Steve.|-|
Re: new power for Frisco. Thanks Steve, I aggree the Frisco would not have opted for the safety cabs until it cost more to get locomotives without them. But I'm telling you those Safety cabs work. I have seen cab video of headon's at 40 mph+ and the crew lived. I will add another vidio for those interested.
Re: new power for Frisco. Hi Ethan, Thanks but I think the focus id off and I record in macro or normal and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Trying to learn how to use metering now, Oh well. Yea I considered youtube but know even less about it than this site. I have an idea that posting here, might keep it a little closer to home, than youtube. I have tried to upload a certain file 10 times and get the same error message I have erased it, and am going to record a new one and try it... All I am using is a Nikin P6000 point and shoot camera that will record short videos. If you want send me an email with instructions, and I will try to upload to youtube. Thanks Tom H.
Re: new videos for Frisco in HO Hope this works, I have tried to upload videos of more than 1 minute or 55 MB+ and received error messages. I have re-recorded the same video and broken it up into less than 50MB or 30+= minutes and so far it's working. Anyway these videos are of a West bound train climbing to the summit of the RR (Quanah). Why the climb? It is all so you get inside the RR without having to duck (less you are 6' tall or more). The main yard is 54" from the concrete floor, where the door enters the building is 74" from the floor. I always wanted to have a MRR that actually put the locomotives to work, the only dummiy on this MRR is me , all engines are powered and expected to pull their share. You would be amazed at what these little engines are pulling. All of the rolling stock on the MRR, is at least twice NMRA weight specs, and almost all have Reboxx wheels and metal drawbars, coupler heights are correct and strictly monitored. These files are submitted in order so you can see the progress of the train Westward, no scenery on the whole part yet (it's allot for one guy to do). After these vids we work our way into a part of the outfit with some scenery. It might be time to come up with a new name to this thread like, Frisco Model videos and perhaps a model video forum. This has deviated from the new Frisco power part of the thread. Please enjoy, Tom H.
Re: new power for Frisco. More great videos! What DCC system are you using? BTW the size and length deal wouldn't be a problem on youtube. 2gb or 15 minutes.
Great videos, Tom - Keep'em coming! Nice long train, good progress on the layout. I like the SD in black and yellow. In the spirit of having a model train operation video thread here is a link to my "Mixed Train Daily" video on Youtube: - James
Thanks Keith I think this was the right thing to do and just another example of this great website evolving and growing. Thanks Ethan, this is all simple DC multi cab operation, with lots of amps and volts with walk around radio throttles (9 cabs in all) I do have 2 DCC steam engines a Spectrum 2-10-0 and a Spectrum 2-8-0 that operate in DC as well as DCC. Keith Robinson installed a Tsunami decoder in a Spectrum 2-8-0 tender for me months ago and it works great. Regards, Tom
Awesome videos Tom! Love the grades! Oh, how I would love to have some steam double head those hills or have some pusher action! That's awesome. Can't wait to see more!
Thanks James and Manny, James-do you know Dick Maddock in Rifle CO? He owns a very well equipped machine shop and has been building those live Steamers for many years, neat stuff, nothing like smelling the real thing, thanks. Manny- for you I will run some steam one of these days doubleheaded of course. I have very little in the way of steam or pre-war stuff at all. My Grandpa was a hoghead for the QA&P RY in Quanah and was promoted on steam, he always told me there was nothing like it. I still have some investigation transcripts when he was a fireman, and was accused of setting fire to a chunk of West Texas, sanding the flues. Of course it wasn't very funny to him But being a Local Chairman it is amazing at how much some things have not changed since the 1940's in railroading. Tom H.
I've posted this one before, but it's worth another look: Tom
I have too many videos to post links. So I will post a link to my youtube channel where you can find all my videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/railfanfromiantha You'll find videos from my early days with power lock track, my failed attempts at flex track and now EZ track. Plus two videos from Rick McClellan's Northern Division layout. I probably wont be posting here that much, youtube is the best way to keep up on my layout.
Tom - If that's all work by one guy, it's very impressive and puts my puny efforts to shame! Now I'm feeling reinvigorated, and eager to get all of the Christmas decorations moved to our garage attic, and start re-erecting benchwork in the layout room. Thanks very much for sharing,
Thanks Chris Yep It's all mine, my fault. My Lovely wife helps me upon request to hold something just right until I can secure it. I did have a little help from a real carpenter early in the project, to build the elevated walkways where the RR is too tall to do anything with, much less see, and the ramps on and off of those. Other than that I put every board in, so far laid 13 boxes of 100, 3' pieces of flex track, and I don't know how many switches, all the wiring. There is only me to blame, if something goes wrong, and thats OK with me. I have amassed quite an array of welding clamps and "special tools" to aid in my efforts It has been a real learning experience. With the fact that I have no schedule for work, it is all but impossible to have anyone help me on a consistent basis. We usually try to operate here at least a couple Sunday afternoons/evenings a month, with any where from 7 to 12 people operating, dispatching or the Yardmonsters. We have allot of fun. I'm sure it's more than I deserve Tom H.
Glacier Park Models Frisco 4500 Last year, Rick let my GPM 4500 stretch her legs just a bit on his Frisco Northern Division. The model has a Tsunami decoder.
