Marre and Harper's Frisco Diesel Power indicates that SLSF632 was the last unit in the original GP7 paint scheme. I have a 1979 John Fuller photo of SLSF 632 in Joplin. At the time the photo was taken, 632 was still in it's original paint scheme, complete with a full set of 4 (heavily weathered) stripes on the short hood (I can't see the end of the long hood in the photo). The photo isn't dated with a specific month, but judging by the trees in other photos I bought from John, the photo was taken early in the year. (I remember John telling me when I bought the photos that he had made only one trip to photograph the Frisco). SLSF 632 was sold to PNC 12/18/1979 and became CNW 4457 in may 1980. 632 was definitely repainted before retirement (see http://www.drgw.net/cnw/GP7/4457/4457.html ). Paul
I would probably by 2 (for MU switching) in O/W in HO scale. I'd be happy for a switching layout with a Train man GP38-2 to go with my GP40-2 and get 2 O/W G7's. That's my Ho scale dream right now.
I would be grateful for an opportunity to purchase one or more (I'd love to have 3 or four but probably couldn't afford it) HO scale Frisco b/y GP7's. I appreciate accuracy as much as the next guy, but some of us with poor modeling skills and limited free time would welcome any b/y paint scheme / road #s you might make available.
Hello All: For what it's worth author and N scaler Steve Goen wanted me to let everyone that he is also working with Atlas on black and yellow GP7's. Two road numbers and one of the QA&P lettering locomotives is what he is pushing for. So, if everything works out N scalers could be looking at 5 road numbers in the black and yellow and one QA&P locomotive. I would be happy in HO scale to have the QA&P lettered locomotive! Sign me up for a QAP unit too. I have a photo of 546 (I think) in Springfield, MO so those units may have gotten around the system. Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick
Unfortunately, that is a way of life in modeling / buying circles today. A manufacturer beats their brains out to produce a run of something, and the first thing that happens is that all the "experts" go to the forum of their choice and begin picking it apart. Funny, 20 years ago, we'd settle for a model of something that the Frisco had, regardless of detail. Then we'd detail and paint to our liking. Nowadays, we want everything ready-to-run out of the box, and it's supposed to be completely road-detail-specific. My, how times have changed.......
