I finally drove the golden spike last night. Trains were ran over the line forwards and backwards through the two turnouts and around the sharp curves without a hitch. Now I need to attatch the permanent wiring and start the bridges and scenery. A few locals showed up and I grabbed a quick photo. The old fellow in the back with his wagon can't believe how much progress he's seen over the years.
Bravo! That is so cool! You are really capturing the 1880's-1890's with passion! You're an inspiration to me. I love the tie spacing. So accurate! Please keep up the pictures. You should submit your small line to the magazines. I'm sure they'd scoop it up in a heartbeat!
The spike size assures a very secure rail joint! I hope the gold purchase was in circa-1900 HO scale dollars per ounce rather than at the current price. Thank you for another fun picture. George Nelson
Thanks, guys. Tonight I finished the Zalma siding and now all the ballasting is finished as well. Having such a small 4x8 layout leaves lots of time to detail the flextrack. Laying track is one of my least favorite aspects of the hobby.
I think Jim James' Zalma layout is headed for one of Kalmbach's "Great Model Railroads" issues. I'm just sayin'... Tom
I agree. If he doesn't submit it. I may just do it. It's time that Jim receives the full credit he deserves from the hobby. What an inspiration! More pics! More pics! More pics! Let's put the Frisco on the map!!!
Thanks but you guys are way too kind. The layout is a long way from completion so there isn't much of an "article" so to speak. But someday. Tonight I bought some fake fur to try a different ground cover technique and I love how it looks. I'll post picks tomorrow. I guess I should keep this all on one thread so I'll put the pics on the "New Direction for Zalma" thread. Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement.
"Pardon me while I stand and applaud!" Very well done, Jim. This should inspire me to restart track laying on our HO-Scale Olathe. It will be much easier now that baseball post-season has wrapped up. Thanks for sharing,
